can't find tree hoppers

Trying to do the Tree Hoppers quest and it says tree hoppers a bug found in tall trees and hops from branch to branch. It suggests I check the tall trees in Glennheim Hills.

I've spent over an hour randomly wandering around, climbing up tall trees, and haven't found anything. I don't know what I'm looking for - I don't know if they're only in specific trees or what they look like or if they'll have sparkles or anything. Combined with janky climbing and being half blind with my view obscured by leaves, I'm getting frustrated enough to ditch the quest - though I can't find how to do that either.

Any tips?

what did tree look like? Was it obvious? I am there now and no tree looks or says "Tall" on overland map or land-view....

They're very obviously the biggest trees on the map, huge trunks, and not near the camp site. You can find some a little past the talking door (says it won't open until it rains again or something like that) and the cave you go for ... some quest I can't remember.

yeah basically climb one of the big trees there and look for the little flea looking suckers hopping around the tree, very easy to miss

Ah, right, that explains the little glows up in some trees I saw when I first started playing.

If the intention of this quest is to have you close the game out of frustration, then its a great quest. I mean ive been climbing trees for 3 hours now for 1 bug with no luck. Love this game but this quest is crap and should be re-evaluated.

You can see things glowing in the branches just while walking around. I noticed some right after I started playing but didn't bother to investigate as I was heading to do a quest elsewhere.

Every time I've climbed a tree to find a hopper, its almost thrown me off the tree when I get scooped up on its back then it takes me for a ride and I wall run across the tree trunk. 10/10

So im on the same quest, figured it was the giant trees in the area as I'd been to the area before, I as of posting this reply have not found a tree hopper, but I have found many collectables with gold glowies around them in these trees, typically flowers. If anybody has a picture I think that would be the best way to solve this, like they say, a picture can speak a thousand words.

I guess I was lucky, I climbed up in one of the gigantic trees to a branch, looked down and one of the little insects kept appearing for a few seconds, disappearing and reappearing. Pretty easy to snag.

Found it thanks to this. Go to the glenheim forest and zoom in to find the named area "Tall trees", there's some big trees with bouncing mushrooms up the sides and flowers to gather in the branches. The bug jumps from branch to branch and dissapears while it does. Just gather all the flowers and look for the remaining sparkle.

I am climbing around all of these trees in the area marked Tall Trees, but other than the flowers, no sparkles that I can find.
How easy are they supposed to be seen?

EDIT: They don't have sparkles.
They're black bugs, beetle-like, and hop around very fast. It is hard to see that it is the bug you are looking for - you just end up thinking it is random particle effect.
When you see something like that, just reverse back on the branch you are walking on and go forward again, it seems to respawn them. Get the timing right and you can grab one.

Had the same problem, eventually I just started spamming E on branches and instantly got one, didn't even see it.
