20 tips/warnings for beginners.
1- level up soon as it procs or you'll only get one stat point per extra lv if you have enough exp to level up multiple times. (crafting an engineer and using the table is the easiest way to lv- just be sure not to level up multiple times without spending points!)

2.- Choose what buildings to build wisely- the tooltip will say if its not implemented. Rule of thumb- there is no hay or wood bundles in the game- don't try building those. You CANNOT delete a structure once its started.

3.- the library books in starter library can be deciphered by placing them on the table and sitting down in the chair for fire/cryo proficiency.

4.- Hp/Mana amulets are bugged. They stack each time they are equipped on and off.
\ HP regen DECREASES your regen PERMENENTLY- DO NOT BUY OR EQUIP.
\ Mana regen works but will add more regen every time you re-equip it.

5.- hitting corpses still builds proficiency!- works great for unnarmed skill to get it strong enough to fight live targets.

6.- there is no carryweight, stamina increases the weight of physics objects you can lift.

7.- Mounts have infinite stamnia and are FAST. The grapple can swing you by pressing F after latching, unequip your weapon with "T" to climb or swim. You can even wallrun.

8.- There are large quantities of pine/iron ore on the world map directly out front of starter village- re-enter the village to respawn these overland nodes. Hold Spacebar to speed up your overland travel/mining!

*edit* submitted by Tachyon- In world map, Shift + LMB click to move your character marker to zone where you clicked. No need to run there now.

9- Mouse wheel zooms out overland map, making finding POI's easier.

10.- Apple pies are the best healing items/bang for buck. buy them at certain bakers.

11.- Resource nodes are somewhat random. I believe gold only spawns on areas where silver is present. (Not 100% sure, but it seems likely)

12.- The church in erdglen will give you free arcane spells via quests, do those before putting any points into arcane.

13.- Ichor blade is currently bugged, adding a powerful, permanent weapon to your inventory after duration expires.

14.- you will frequently become bugged. Save game and reload game fixes 90% of these.

15.- lutes can be played by clicking on them, then clicking shift+0 near crowds. you'll get money and admiration from passersby.

16.- use powerattacks vs armored/shielded enemies, use grapple to ground flying enemies.

17. Hold (capslock) to bring up sidebar for non-combat spells.
\use 'z' key to bring up quickmenu for items- they can be used by pressing ALT+1-8.
\ use 'R' to bring up potions quickmenu.

18. enemies take fall and impact damage- use your push/throw skills to use ledges or other nearby objects to your advantage.

19. Use arcane skills on enemies to get divine favor, use necro spells to get spirit essence from corpses.

20. stealth adds damage to unaware enemies, and is also useful for taming creatures to use as pets!

I think I actually got wood bundles, it looks like a little pile of sticks in the inventory but it has no tooltip, when I click on them theyre consumed and dont do anything. I got them from the first tree I tried to cut down. I havent found any since.

Another tip, you can find a walking stick and grab a flintlock pistol that sells for 750 gold to get you some starting money before ever leaving the castle. The quest dude for magnifying glass and 6 copper ore has the flintlock right on his counter. The walking stick I think was in the library, not sure. Selling those 2 gets you 850 gold. You're welcome.

I kept the double-barrelled pistol because it's the only one I have ever seen. When I start I go straight to Brittlebean, loot boxes in houses, picking up 8-12 weapons at a time, then after a few minutes I head back to the castle. I usually end up with 15k+ gold, all within a few minutes of starting a character. Then, I do the quests in the starting castle and get my character going properly.

Yeah I have done the brittlebean thing a few times, I don't really see the need to have 15k. My method is just to get a quick start, for example you want to play a staff mage, you don't get a staff as a starter weapon, but if you sell the flintlock and walking stick, you can insta travel to Edgar whatever, where you buy the magnifying glass and go upstairs and buy a staff. If you want a nice bankroll, then go to brittlebean, if you just want access for a starter build of your choice, sell those 2 weapons and you're set!

You can level jumping quickly by finding a steep hill or staircase. Run towards the staircase and spam the space bar. If you hit it fast enough you can run out of Stam almost instantly. Pop a stamina potion and do it again.

Woodcutting is a grind but the blessing tree has several nodes.

For mining, once you hit mining 4 go to the 3 sisters, and farm the iron there (the nodes are close together).

For weapinsmithing if you are struggling take a few seconds to focus on just the A, S, and D keys before starting.

You can farm fishing levels by raising the bar then intentionally missing to lower the meter, and build it up again.

A lot of weapon descriptions are lying to you. Some are using the wrong icon/description/name, I assume these are placeholders. Many simply have the wrong number for their damage stat, so far I've yet to find a one handed weapon that does more than 35, many are listed much higher.
EDIT; I did find one one handed weapon with a true 40 damage, the dwarven mace. It doesn't seem to spawn outside of the airship crash event though.

That explains why my health regen is in the toilet. I got one of those amulets for a quest reward and equipped it without knowing.
invest in the first cryomancy spell. Enemies can often very easily slip on the ice patches and rag doll to the ground leaaving you an opening to smack them around. This does not work with flying enemies, and you can very easily become victim to your own ice patch unless you level "icewalker" at which point you will just slide a little.

Is there a hotkey for reloading guns? Can't tell if there's a cool-down or I'm just missing the obvious...
Tachyon Oct 23, 2023 @ 11:08pm
Left-click reloads an empty weapon.

If you have not tried sneaking, X by default, with spells or a ranged weapon, you're missing out on a lot of fun and some crazy damage!

I had to scrap 2 saves due to that bug. Otherwise just buy the apple pies as they give a lot of health up front and then give a 2 min regen buff.

Thanks @tachyon! My first gun was the two barrel pistol thing after exclusively using the bow.
