TGAAC came out in July 2021. That was less than two years ago. Yes, it was basically just a port and a localisation of two already existing games, but it shows that Capcom still cares about the series. There's nothing that points to them wanting to end the series, so far. They wouldn't have bothered localising these two games, if that was the case.
One can only hope for more spin-offs like The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles.
The Great AAC was made to explore possibilities for the series to continue. However, most gamers just don't like to read and watch long experiences with ever ending content . TGAA series are aimed at the detective, point and click, and slice of life drama crowd. Because, the crowd for this kind of game is fairly small. An popular among mostly women . The fanbase is rather small.
Even, if you add the anime fanbase. Most people rather do memes rather than, play the games. Because, most people now. Have very short attention spans. The series sadly just isn't what people would play for hours on end. So, alot of the content has to be held back.
Because, this game was a updated of a nintendo 3ds game. That had to jump through hopes to avoid the Sherlock Holmes copyright. As well the cost of having the ost done with a live orchestra. It's a wonder this game was every released outside of Japan.
Given, those issues and problems. Adding in how the leadership of Capcom has been rather woke ruining games and remakes of late. Just be glade the characters haven't been ruined. Or worse censored as people like to say . For the modern audiences.
Those may be the main game conclusions. However, the cross over felt like the most definitive conclusion to both characters stories.
Maybe that's because, Capcom resold that same 3 games over and over and over again. Making people tired of the same games. If Capcom sold the Japanese exclussive and 3ds entries as ports the series could see a increase / demand. But, given capcom is making games lesser experiences and ignoring core fans for a new fanbase.
Would you really want more Ace Attorney that lacks the charm of the older games ?
and because Trials and Tribulations was supposed to be the end of Wright's story
But Capcom saw $$$ so Apollo Justice became the Hobo Phoenix show
There is always room for 3D remakes rather than 2D remaster we got in Ace Attorney Trilogy.
I would actually like to see the entire series re-released with original Japanese names, locations and option to pop up the window with explanation on phrases, names and corresponding in-side jokes rather than the westernization we got instead.
It never made sense for Ace Attorney series to take place in US instead of Japan.
Many of those westernization turned against the localization team in later games from the series, and eventually resulted in Great Ace Attorney being Japan exclusive for 3DS, with western release being delayed for about six years.
Even though Street Fighter and Resident Evil are capcom's most famous series, for me it's Gyakuten Saiban/Kenji that is my most favorite of their games and those I've played the most.
It's shame how the series was treated in the west.
Still, it kinda proves how good the series is though, since despite many of the westernization decisions were truly unfortunate, it still gained popularity.
Maybe we just don't share the same definition of "dead", then. I don't know about you, but I don't see how the series has died if Capcom has acknowledged it by publishing a full localisation of the duology just two years ago. As I said, Capcom clearly hasn't abandoned the series. To me, this is enough to know that it isn't dead at all. Since then, there have been Ace Attorney themed Capcom Cafe events, Gyakuten Saiban Orchestra, new Fangamer merch, and there even is an upcoming live musical performance. If we'd only have gotten total radio silence from Capcom in regard to Ace Attorney since Dai Gyakuten Saiban 2 released in Japan in 2017, then yes, the series would be dead all right. But that is not the case at all.
