1st Case motive?

I kept waiting for the motive aspect to be required, having played many PW games before. Wierd that they didn't have to prove a motive at all? Or is it not necessary in Japanese courts?

It's something they purposely hid in order to add more to the mysteries. I think it would revealed later or maybe not (just like how it was with Apollo Justice)

Naruhodou dont have motive, obviously, and lady couldnt be tried for this case due to political reasons. It may be revealed later. Or not, i only finished first case.

Trust me, all cases if left unresolved will have their follow ups later on in other cases or inside GAA2 cases. The plot and characters in Ace Attorney series are usually top-notch and loose ends are mostly tied up by the end of the series (usually a trilogy but GAA only have 2 parts so far) and they all have epilogues.
