Any info on pre-download?
the title speaks for itself;
Consoles already have a pre-download function, is it not the case for steam? :7

I don't think steam ever had an option to pre-download

Games have always had preload, just not every game.

They certainly do. I did pre order Borderlands 3 a year ago and it had a preload on Steam a day before the release.

I've heard before that to have a pre-load on steam your game needs to be bigger than 30GB, if that's true then this game is definitely out of the question. Im more concerned about the unlock time to be honest.

Pre-load isn’t even worth it on Steam. Most platform pre-loads only include an encrypted exe which is decrypted upon release. Steam actually encrypts the entire game files then decrypts them upon release. For me with GTA V, it was literally faster to delete my preload and redownload the game after release than to sit and wait for the preload to decrypt.

Tl;dr Unless you have an SSD and powerful CPU, Steam preloads aren’t even worth it.

This is so off-the-wall that it's actually hilarious. The Steam client was built with preloads in mind from the very beginning. The first game to ever require Steam, Half-Life 2, offered preloading back in 2004! The other platforms took ages to catch up.

Preloading has been common on Steam for almost two decades by now.
