Leviathan
Is this thing going to get a redesign ?

I am totally unsure of how it was supposed to work but it seems a relic of some sort of multiplayer thing.

It says you can attack multiple times as it doesn't recover it's hitpoints but you can only attack once per day. I feel it was some sort of public quest thing where everyone on the server has a poke at it and if/when it dies you get some loot.

The mechanics of it are really not fun.

If anyone has any idea what to do then please speak up.

Because I cannot move my ships to a position and have them hold that position they are all going straight back into fight the first instant they can it is hardly possible to control them in any meaningful way at all.

That said I have killed it twice now as it exists and found the loot to be entirely underwhelming for the 48 minute slugfest it ends up being for me. (faster at 2x and I just increased my firepower)
I can really only control and keep one ship alive to the end so it's really, really slow to die.

Also the after fight needs a rethink.
If you engage and all ships die you respawn nearby with all ships and crew restored.
If you engage and win with 1 ship left you have a completely ruined fleet and next to no crew left to sail home with. Odd way to treat the winner when someone who wipes gets a better deal.

It needs a rethink in general but specifically ships need to be able to be moved to a position and they need to be able to hold that position and not just charge straight back into the fight.

It is not designed currently for single player.

It could use a far better reward. Although the figurehead is nice the other rewards have been underwhelming. Definitely not worth the time it takes to kill based solely on the rewards.

Any tactics anyone ? Ones that keep more than one ship alive ? Although it's my 'heaviest' ship in terms of armour it is my weakest by far in terms of dps.

Usually far out at sea in almost all regions there is a big red star. It's a boss fish.

Only way I get it is with my heaviest ship ( I think it was given as a reward on the main quest 12k+ armour.) fitted with one of the heal 20% ship health captains.

Immediately move ALL ships around the monster to the top of the map so you are all gathered under the timer. Eat the blue bar. Once gone the monster runs amok and kills everything going all over the map. Focus solely on keeping your tank/heal ship safe. Once the other ships of yours die ( I can keep 2 alive but with 3 it keeps running amok - seems to calm with only 2 ships left) it will settle again into the middle. Find a spot above it that it's aoe attack does not hit often. Sit there and nibble away at it till it dies while healing yourself regularly. It does not go berserk again.

Drops a figurehead, some gold and multiple of another random high level item.

I have gotten:
Skill books.
Exquisite 18 smoke guns.
Exquisite 16 cannon.

Only killed it 4 times so far but I have the pattern figured so it's pretty easy. Just slow.

I have completed all story missions and I do not have a 12k+ armor ship. Can you tell me what ship name? I would like to farm Leviathan some for skill books

Regazzoni Sailboat. It was a mission reward for something.

Ok I have that one, I am working to recruit all the best officers for my fleet now. Do you run a different set up for leviathan than you do for Prince?

I haven't done leviathan in a while. Once I had all the figureheads I wanted he doesn't really give anything else worth the time it takes. I used vulcans on him. I have not found penetrators to be any use at all and I have never tried grapeshot on him. I don't know the best build sorry. Just focus on gearing up 2 ships both with repair ship skill with your weapon of choice. Ultimately you will be reduced to two ships because it isn't until you only have 2 ships he settles back into the middle where you can kill his red hp bar.

Prince is full mortar - grapeshot. Every single gun needs to be grapeshot. Anything else is a waste of time. Don't use smoke, vulcan or penetrators. Anything that kills the sailors is the key with him.

i found an rather easy way of killing leviathan. i have all my ships as melee.
total of 3 captain with quick repair. i got the third quick repair with a skillbook.
normally can kill it within 2minutes and still have around 4 or 5 ships still alive.
but once in a while still fail to kill though.

Galleas ? The actual melee ship ? Yeah I use ranged ships with no guns so by no means are they as effective as I assume the actual melee ships are. I have 2 with ranged attack and heals left over for when the melee ships die. Usually around when his red bar is at 50% or so. There is a spot you can sit among his AoE attack and rarely get hit while ranging him down but it's slow once you get to this point. Probably a 10 min fight. I only do him enough for 8 figureheads. The rest of his loot is ordinary at best with the exception of some hard to find skill books. Still not worth the time. Maybe if it was a 3min fight it would be.

I didn't want to spend the resources getting melee ships up to spec just for this guy when I aim to fit grapeshot on them at the end anyway. They are passable melee and ready for ranged later. I do wonder how a strong melee fleet would fare against the Prince. I fear like most fights I have had with pure melee they do themselves a bit of a disservice climbing over the top of each other to get t enemy ships and die more than I would like just from confusion.

If your ships can do Lev would you care to pop up and poke the Prince and give us a report on how they fare verses him. Prince has a low sailor count.

when u guys means prince? u guys means the storyline?(sorry kinda forgot). only come to know that there's leviathan when i come across this thread. have completed the storyline until cape town which still havent release. anyway i rmb there's a battle where they mentioned melee would not be effective but instead i still have most of my fleet as melee. only 2 ships were ranged. Still beat the opponent and didnt rmb there was anything too difficult

There is one storyline quest where it takes your first ship and you can only range attack as they use smoke on you which counters melee.

The Prince is Prince Thessius up near Beirut. There is a ruin you cannot enter on a nearby island that the Prince circles. He is lvl 23 I think and extremely tough if not done with mortars/grapeshot. I just wonder how effective melee would be.
He has severe damage output initially and I expect the time it takes you to sail into boarding position will see you dead rather quickly but that is a total guess. So If you go up that way give him a poke. He has some extremely valuable loot. Drops 4-6M gold per kill so that should give you an idea of his difficulty.........

haha just tried. totally cannot beat. not a single chance

eheh I tried melee, never again... you can't get close enough in time to stop the cannons, all the ships gets shredded to pieces too soon :D
I haven't tried with the arabian ship tho, I still don't have enough iron plate to make enough of them :(

As I suspected. It's pretty critical to get some hurt on him instantly to lower his DPS ASAP otherwise he wins. Although he has a low sailor count which might well be easily killed by a good melee ship you just cannot close fast enough to be viable. Thanks for trying though.

there is still an option to try with melee ships with smoke cannons so they will miss but they still have more ships than you so you cannot stop them all :D
Maybe the arabian ship does the job since it has a HUGE amount of armor, but it cost 70m and 600 plates each so is not a joke to build a fleet of those :D
