All that I'm trying to say is that I love this game. It's addicting to me. Not everyone is going to feel the same, or enjoy it as much as I do, but from the amount of time I've played the game (I have more hours on console) I don't think I'm going to get bored anytime soon!
First of all, let's talk about the most obvious problem, the release state of the game.
The devs did release Aragami 2 in a terrible state... there were no possibility to rebind controls. (I think that alone says a lot about the state of a game)
It was a clunky early access at most.
Many promise were broken... First, the skill trees.
We were supposed to have 3 different skill trees which would allow for 3 distinct gameplay (stealthy or not), instead we got a single tree which we cannot max out.
Not maxing a tree makes sense when there are different gameplay types associated to it but with the current tree we got, it made no sense.
Then, the combat which were suposed to be some sort of dark souls-y gameplay is a total mess. It's not fun and makes little sense. (let's skip the details but gobally, without a certain item, rushing in leads to a certain death)
Aragami is all about shadows... before the patch which came way too late (so much that I didn't even want to reinstall the game to try it out), movements were all about jumping and dashing. So much that you can jump / dash the entire game and kill everybody really easily.
Powers really allow cheesing the game and why wouldn't you cheese it if you can instead of trying to make it out the hard way? I got that power but let's not use it to try to make the game slower and more enjoyable... eeeh, no?
The shadow / light concept is totally gone ! In the first game you had to move through shadows and light was really dangerous to you. The way you had to teleport through shadows was really original. Enemies were unforgiving too but you could teleport in their shadows. In the sequel, all those elements forcing us to stay in the shadow were thrown away.
The UI of the first game was only on the cape of our hero but in 2, they chose to give us a UI... Not really a big problem buuuuut... Not great !
The story isn't really great, it was better told in the first game, more enjoyable and you understood what happened.
We didn't get that many new unique and original powers but still, it's all about jumping and dashing.
The level design of Aragami 2 is amazing... But never did they give us the full level to explore and beat... Only part of it. Why limiting players and preventing them from doing the complete level?
Some un-precised control problems
And it's a bunch of stuff like that which have made players hate the game.
It's uninteresting in many ways and you could easily cheese it.
I wish the devs did more for the game and the community even if releasing small paid DLC. Finally, the devs gave up on the addon everybody was waiting for.
If you ask me however, it's no different than the current JUMPING and DASHING... it's just different. You still need to stay in the shadows to remain unnoticed.
People most likely complained about Aragami 2 being too easy. To some extent I can agree but on the flip side I love the good ol' power fantasy. Abilities in Aragami 2 let you kill enemies from range, turn invisible, jump and dash mid air to the point enemies feel like lambs for slaughter especially mid - late game. Not so much in the beginning when "normal" movement is the only thing players have.
I personally liked the Aragami 2 as it reminded me of Tenchu Z ( game most similar in almost all aspects. Becoming overpowered was fun, lots of missions to a various degree of success, multiplayer and that satisfying stalking gameplay! ) Shame though that Aragami's melee combat is wonky and unpolished.
Critical fan response to Aragai 2: Not what I expected, plays too much like Tenchu.
You can't please everybody all the time. Both Aragami 1&2 are great games imo and are worth owning if you like Ninjas and/or Stealth.
It's a complain I think everybody had along with the other issues at release.
Secondly, for the fan of the 1st, the lack of a shadow / light system as in the first game.
You could also talk about the UI being cumbersome in Aragami 2.
It's a totally different direction than what the first was like, for the fans of aragami it was felt like a betrayal.
Finally, it got quite some hatred because it's really what was advertised and the 3 skill trees for different builds was just dropped by the devs (apparently the 3 skill trees were too similar to one another so instead of fixing it, they removed them and left a single tree)
Other than that, if had been a different license, I think it would have had more love.
Here, it was just not worth of the license.
its basically Tenchu-lite with shadow magic powers, hella fun!
