The game has crashed my pc on 5 different occasions now
I don't have this problem with any other game in my library and many of those games are far more demanding than this one.

I have an excellent gaming pc that can handle pretty much everything.

But this issue is getting out of hand, I love this game but I am afraid for my pc because I don't want these crashes to affect the health of my pc components. The whole pc freezing can't be good in the long run.

One time it crashed so hard that the powerbutton didn't even work anymore, I literally had to cut power to the PSU in order to shut down the pc.

Please Paradox fix this problem.

This is a widespread issue affecting many players, myself included. Frustratingly, it's caused by the latest Windows 11 update (version 24H2). The problem is being discussed on the Paradox forum: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/game-crashing-after-windows-11-24h2-update.1718749/#post-30062333

Also here on the Microsoft forum: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/crusader-kings-3-crashes-after-windows-11-24h2/922fcd9b-03ae-4cd0-afd9-edf9a19d8a64

Unfortunately, there’s no sign of an official fix anytime soon, as the last update on this issue was a few months ago. Both Paradox and Microsoft are blaming each other & taking their sweet time to fix it. The only confirmed solution so far is to roll back Windows 11 to version 23H2.

Happenned to me as well. Only one time for now. Having to manually shut down the computer. Too lazy to check but I don't think I'm under that specific windows version though.

However I know this windows shenanigan causes the same problem on other games too, Path of Exile 2 has the same issue and people are pretty mad about it.
I don't think developpers can really do anything about it for now.
Pretty sure it's a memory leak. Been watching it on the task manager in the performance tab using 15gb(or more) active memory and another 15gb(or more) cached memory. It's eating all the memory you can give it. Been doing it since I updated windows last week. Even stranger is I can clear the cached memory with rammap and the game runs perfectly fine, it's just not letting go of any cached memory.

I have suspected that it was a memory leak as well that was causing it.

Might have found a correlation though, I noticed that when I cleared all of the save files in my documents folder, the game ran a little smoother and I had less crashes, it's almost like it consumed less memory if the save folder in documents is emptied.

However, when I tried to delete a save file from within the game, the whole game froze my pc for 5 minutes straight but thankfully my pc recovered, the game crashed all together though.

I bet it has to do with savefiles and memory usage as well as memory leaks.

Even after clearing the documents folder though, it still crashes my pc :/

I love your profile pic btw :D

I ended up rolling back the windows update myself and that worked so I know my issue was with the update. This was some time ago for me but I was opted in to early windows updates at the time.

It would force me to reset the system every time. I had heard that this was also happening in some other games as well so just decided to leave it rolled back for now.
