Absurdly slow load speeds?
I know this game has always had some painfully slow loading times but I've been sitting on a load screen for over five minutes now. When did these load times get so atrocious? I've been away for a bit.

Do you have it on an SSD? My load times are under a minute.

Unfortunately not, my SSDs are out of space, but I had it on a 7200 RPM mechanical drive last time I played and it definitely wasn't anywhere near that bad.

SSD here. Game loads in under 30 sex. SSD's are so cheap these days.

No way you have 30 sex

Yeah need to get it off that 7200 waste of a good game. It is not that large either.

The first load after a patch is always longer, the first load after a computer restart is always longer, every mod makes load times slower, every time content is added load times get a bit slower, and, of course, you should be using an SSD for any modern game.

So if you've been gone awhile, the big issue is probably a new update, but you should expect increased load times regardless, due to the game having more content than it did before.

Yeah Razor I do notice if I have to restart after that first start it is much faster. Must load up some files in cache or something. Or at least seems faster after the first start of the day.

CK3 does a lot of caching and unpacking when it loads. That's the only reason it's even playable on an HDD; it front-loads everything. Otherwise, you'd be experiencing a load screen every 5 minutes like it's a 2010 console RPG.

They are, but I just bought myself a Steam Deck AND it's Christmastime, I can't afford to grab one right now because if I switch 100% to SSDs, I need to switch ALL of my drives.

With the amount of stuff I keep installed and stored on my system (including lossless music files), I'd have to switch my two small SSDs out and grab myself a 2TB SSD to replace my mechanical drive. It would come out to something like $210 which I just can't spare right now, especially considering the fact I'd have to reinstall everything which I also can't afford to do right now (besides, I'm switching to Linux next October, so I'd rather not do it twice within a year). Besides, this 7200 RPM mechanical drive is perfect for almost all games except large, modern RPGs and such. Plus, I need bulk storage of large files, such as my nearly 12,000 songs (many of which are in lossless formats like FLAC).

Anyways, I appreciate the replies from everyone. I guess I'll be uninstalling for the time being. I'm really not sure what changed, because like I said, I played the game earlier in the year and it didn't have this issue. Sure, the load times were slow but not this bad.

I have a SSD and the game takes an insane amount of time to launch.

Like..gee...what in all hell can explain such poor optimisation?

yep it seems to just be getting slower and slower every update

It's taking about half an hour to load now. After re-installing, uninstalling and reinstalling again and deleting all previous game files, and trying to revert to old betas, it's not playable. Wake up paradox!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has noticed a significant increase in load times. Yes, an SSD would definitely improve load times but like I mentioned prior, it never used to be this bad on previous times when I played it on a mechanical drive.

Craziest thing is that it's, at least in my case, the initial loading who takes like 3 or 4 full minutes. Just to reach the main menu of the game lol.
