Changing graphical settings crashes game

Hey guys,

first time playing this game, without mods. First time loaded up today, and tried changing the graphical settings, which always leads to the game crashing.

I can play the game fine without changing any settings. What do?

Something write protected? and setting cannot be saved because of that?
Have you tried to run game with admin rights does it crash when adjusting settings?

Also look that C:\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings III folder has read and write permissions.

Yep tried that.

Also tried this...according to Paradox: "Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60."

Now everything's ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Can't even launch the game from the game launcher now.

At this current point in time, CK3 isn't worth playing until a patch arrives to fix this bollocks.

This is wild shot but have you edited or disabled windows swap/page file? If so then put that back to use or edit it larger if it is in use. (reason why i ask this is because some SSD/NvME users disable win swap file so it is not writing and using SSD memory cell write times in vain).
CK3 requires swap file to operate normally.
Then are you using intel 13/14 seiies CPU? Try 200Mhz underclock or if overclocking use default clockspeed. Also try running memory in default speed.
Using Nvidia or AMD gpu? or integrated gpu from the cpu?
Using windows or IOS, linux?

- Have not messed with windows swap/page file, not sure what that is.
- Currently playing on a lenovo legion 5 with i5 gtx 3060.
- Windows.

Is it only crashing when adjusting graphics setting? or does it also crash when changing volume in audio setting or adjusting some of the UI setting?

It is really odd that it crashes in setting usually crashing problems in here that are posted happens in when game is loading to main menu or in game random crashes.

Have tried changing to Vulkan renderer in the launcher instead of directX?
Does fullscreen, windowed fullscreen or window affect crashing?

Yep, tried changing the rendering to Vulcan.

As far as i know, i'm getting crashes when i adjust the graphical settings. Probably crashes when i mess around with the other settings too. As i can see the game's on a medium gfx quality by default.

Upon some investigation, the game settings crash has been going on since 2020, but its not been this bad. From what other players have said, after the patch that came out 10 months ago, the crashes in this game have been intensified.

So probs is the game's fault. It may need a good patching.

ive been getting this problem but only with texture quality settings too. I can play well but as the game progresses it gets too laggy and my pc isnt even hot, i guess the game just crashes out of ram even tho i have 16 gb and nothing else running on the back. also i ahve a 2070 rtx super and i only wanted to lower the texture so it wouldnt crash or lag so much as it is set to ultra, but each time i change the quality it just freezes and crash the game, im super lost on what to do
