Also forgot, i tried starting the game in debug mode. Not that it made any difference as it should only affect things while playing and not how the game loads
Anyhow, i verified the files, started the game and again, no surprise, crashed back to desktop but this it also crashed Steam! Nice, it's getting worse!
I started again and this time, first time since i started this whole ordeal, i saw the main menu!!! Decided to exit before it crashes and start again (you know, get a normal close-start cycle in there) only the game once again CTD while also killing Steam with it.... I'm done.
So from the last 10 attempts, i've managed to get into main menu once and of the nine CTD's, it has killed Steam twice. Fair to say, it's unplayable.
Yep, support is the last option but i'm not holding breath. I should prepare myself for a looooong wait.
Uninstall, backup saves from the "Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings III" and delete folder so there is nothing left of old installs, reinstall the game and verify.
This got me into the main menu (yey..) but then it crashed while picking the country to play with and again crashed Steam with it. Reason apparently is that the week old drivers from Nvidia weren't good enough, they have to be THE latest released in 5.3.2024. Wow, talk about picky strategy game.....
This got me into the game and to the point that i'm now, getting to play for 10-15min and then it crashes. Seems many, many people are experiencing the same issue so i'm happy that i'm part of the majority "crashing while playing"-group. It means Paradox might maybe fix the issue at some point.
Next "probable" cause on my computer could be 'BEX64' and it seems to require about a half days of work troubleshooting in "clean boot state" and disabling Data Execution Protection in Windows system files and overall taking more work then i'm willing to put into it. Here is the same link Paradox support gave me: https://www.thewindowsclub.com/fix-problem-event-name-bex64-in-windows-10
I can play ANY other game and use ANY other program no problem, only Crusader Kings 3 is being a donkey balls so i'm done for now.
edit. disclaimer. If in doubt, make a ticket for support. These are the things i did, i cannot say if they work for others or what effects they might have for others. That said, the support is going to say pretty much the same i did.
