CK3 wont launch from Steam, Paradox Launcher does not open

If I launch from steam it says playing for ~5 seconds, then back to the green play button. Paradox launcher never opens. CK3 executable fails as well. I have uninstalled, deleted all files, removed all cache, reinstalled, steam validated and nothing changes.

Update: still not working, I think the problem is the Paradox launcher. I just tried using the beta tab to try versions 1.9.2, 1.9.1, 1.8.2, and 1.7.2 and all of them exhibited the same behavior.

Trust me I am pretty sure I tried damn near anything, I almost have 3k hours in this game, and I cannot figure out how to get it to launch again.

Have you all not tried just launching the CK3 binary instead? The paradox launcher is not strictly required...

Gotcha, umm my suggestion would be to run a process trace on CK3.exe using procmon. Look at the last few captures before it crashes. In my case the shader caches were causing the crash, had to delete the contents of C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\NVIDIA\DXCache . YMMV cause in my case the PDX launcher wasn't crashing, but process trace should tell you what module is faulting on load, at least. My guess is in your case it might be the PDX launcher cache C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Paradox Interactive\ since you are seeing crashes in both PDX and CK3 binary.

I had an issue before, seems maybe a year ago steam made some changes how it launches games...at least that's how it appeared to me.

I now launch all games by right clicking the steam app icon in the bottom right of screen (maybe yours are elsewhere since you can set this yourself) then left click the game you want to launch. If I do this, it has not failed to properly launch a game since I started doing this. Good Luck!!

Thanks for the responses so far. The way I got to play CK3 just now is that I just downloaded the paradox launcher directly from their website. I have the paradox account because of when I previously launched it on steam. I logged in, then installed CK3 for the paradox launcher, and launched from there and no problems. Obviously would be better to launch from Steam but scratched the itch for now. Next Time I'll try armyissue69's suggestion

I had thar issue last night... relaunching the steam client fixed it for me then. Haven't played ck3 today though

Seems like I am missing the procedure entry point discardvirtualmemory dll? I guess I don't see how re-installing it wouldn't create all that is necessary. Unless I am still massively overlooking something

well I tried restarting the steam client, it doesn't fix anything though. Also saw my steam installation of ck3 get a little update, but no change, still won't launch. Paradox launcher has been working for me though
