Game Crash After the new DLC

The game just keep crashing after having the new DLC. I have already set the graphic to the lowest level and it still keeps crashing. (it just suddenly close the game and nothing else) Even i restart the game, it crashes at the same point every time. Honestly there is no way to play the game at the moment.

My laptop is i7 2.6GHz, 32GB ram, RTX2060.

Nope. I use no mods.

At least you get to the main menu. Mine crashed directly after launch because it says the last save (which doesnt exist) was made a version prior to the new one.

i am trying to do clean installed as per some people's suggestions in paradox forum (which means to delete all CK3 related folders and install the game again [and this means all my saves are in vain])

Presently, my game crashes every time my character dies. It will eventually sort itself out. But it's pretty frustrating.

Hello all, quoted other comment to different discussion below. Let me know if this helps:

TLDR; try increasing RAM, or try increasing Virtual Memory (Paging File Size in Windows) - This basically uses your storage media as a slower type of RAM overflow. Try 16 - 32 GB if avalible. Mine was like 2-3GB by default and insufficient.


This probably won't fix every specific crash, but I have a different error line for almost every crash in the Documents/Paradox folders, so I figured it was a general issue.

Let me know if this does, or doesn't, work for you.

I have 16GB of RAM, but until I increased my virtual memory (Windows 11 - paging file size) to about an ADDITIONAL 16GB, i got crashes. Since, I think I have gotten 1 in about 4 hours of play time.

I highly suspect it is due to high memory usage due to high number of characters kept in memory (every time you do a title search, look for spouse, follow family tree etc. it is looking through all characters in the game, an they are continuously doing this in the background).

This aligns with some peoples claims that games get slower, and stutter/crash often, once you get very far into a campaign. Allegedly, you need to make a negative health modifier for background characters (like lowborn would-be courtiers ), so they die off after a time, and the game stops storing/processing their information.

There are mods & game files modifications (each text file changes) that allegedly fix this.

In the meantime, get more RAM, or Virtual Memory settings (at least for Windows 10/11), and see if this helps. Try maybe 16GB - 32 GB of additional virtual memory (my default was like 2 GB)

I just purchased the new DLC and now the game is crasshing after I get about 2 minutes into the game. Everything is normal for about a minute and then various icons around the screen flash and after a minute of icons and such flashing, the game locks up and I have to crash to desktop.

Any Details in the crash reports? In " C:\Users\<YourUserNameHere>\OneDrive<IfYouHaveOneDriveEnabled>\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings III\crashes " for me on Windows. Doesn't seem to generate one every time, maybe 1/4 if I'm lucky lol. I wasn'y really sure what they meant, but if you get a few of them, you can see if it is the same every time (and get help of their official forumn) or not.

Try the virtual memory fix, and see if that helps. Or, maybe try disabling the DLC/ starting a new campaign for the DLC.

Getting loads of crashes too. Initially just with merging armies, which seems to be a bug introduced by the latest update. Did a fresh reinstall, but it didn't solve anything. Sucks. Have had more crashes in my last 4 hours of gameplay than in the 800+ hours I've spent on the game already.
