Late game lag
Is it due to characters accumulating in courts like weeds in the background?
is there any way to solve this?
I have like 35k characters in the world which seems high.

I have played once from 1066 until 1453, with a fairly large dynasty owning all of Britain, France, Spain, Maghreb and probably more Crusader realms in the Middle East, Africa and Scandinavia.

The last 100 years were about the same speed as the first 100 years. The game has already been well optimized at release.

One thing that actually lags since 1.2 is when you raise an army with the military tab open. If this is split in several stacks, the lag doesn't seem to stop until you merged all stacks.

Just out of curiosity, how big is your dynasty and how many characters are there in your endgame world?

If you open the character finder it lists the total number of characters in the bottom right corner.

My Dynasty alone has 4808 living members in the year 1241. The game is unplayable the lag is so bad. Every time an event pops up, lag, war declaration, lag, my vassal farts, lag. This is the same issue I've had with every Paradox Grand Strategy game. I highly doubt this will be fixed anytime soon or at all. I think it is an issue with how much of the map is visible and as you mentioned the number of characters in game. Such a disappointment. I have never been able to conquer the world completely due to this. I have a solid machine, it's not like I'm playing on a toaster. Ryzen 5 1600X, 16Gig RAM at 3000Mhz, Sapphire RX 580 Nitro+. It seems to me Paradox just doesn't expect the customer to either play the game from earliest start date to finish, or to play the game successfully.

It's been a whole lot of fun up until this point. The Mongols just popped and I can't even enjoy wiping them out and replacing them with my dynasty. Just shoddy

I haven't really experienced any late game lag EXCEPT for crusades. At this point my religion literally covers 2/3 of the world and if I declare a Crusade for a muslim kingdom the combined units adds up to almost a million, the game really doesn't like that, every day at 3 speed is 5 seconds and it takes a while for it to catch up. I'm sure the new way units are spawned isn't helping the problem

That sounds like the problem that I'm having. Each day at 3 speed takes 5-10 seconds. Whether my armies are raised or not. It's incredibly frustrating to get as far as I have and the game is now essentially broken.

In the last pre character version editor i experienced late game lag and the game became unstable. In this current one its only when i raise armies.

Just a thought, does everyone that has lag have a processor that meets the recommended requirement and not just the minimum? A poor processor will inevitably cause more lag late game.

I normally get around 60 fps, though the days change more slowly later in the game. However, there are also sometimes, rarely but definitely there, some nasty spikes down to 20-ish range. In my case this can be the result of some sort of upgrades in the background or Firefox hogging too much memory (right now 6.2 GB, while CK3 is only using 3.5 GB). Once RAM runs out, you can perhaps experience lag, even though there's no competition for CPU usage.

On top speed (5) the game isn't playable late-game. When it tries to go that fast, it grinds down into a lagfest. At middle (3) it's very slow. Hence, I have to play at 4, which is slower than what I'd prefer for realm management and perhaps faster than what I'd prefer for wars if there's any micromanagement needed.

Ryzen 5 1600X. Just recently did a Cinebench benchmark and it scored higher than a Ryzen 7 1700X in single core performance. The game barely even uses any of my CPU though. When I check task manager with the game running it only utilizes around 15-20% CPU. I think it's more RAM hungry than anything, maybe it's time I throw another 16 in my machine.

This might make sense. The play through I'm having issues with I started pre character editor patch. So maybe its still using that older code to run my saved game.
