A notification that you no longer have a steward is the notice of resignation. You get notifications on death of characters deemed important to you, and this typically includes court members. However that isn't the only way someone even a councilor can leave your court, and death notifications can be missed. As a councilor only death, or being removed from your direct realm will remove them. So the (nearly semi possibly) full list of things that could remove a councilor is death, their territory being part of greater territory you give a vassal, them getting married out of realm, them running away during an event, and adventure inspirations temporarily remove the subject from your realm on completion. Remember these for next time so you can respond quicker.
Can you explain what you mean by "Remember to turn top realm to all"?
As far as I can tell, as soon as the "New Faith" dialog pops up, my steward ceases to be my steward but is otherwise completely unaffected by events.
What am I missing here?
