I appreciate it. There are mods (or one can pretty easily mod themselves) the general hard cap. But to do something like I'm describing where it is based off Kingdoms - or anything else dynamic like that - would require PDX to write it up to my understanding.
That said, I don't know why you'd really want more than the 2, or maybe a 3rd. You should really try to have all the counties in your duchies, and the held domain limit usually fits nicely with that.
Same here. I think the 2 duchy limit is just fine for my playstyle, and to some extent i think it's also nicer to focus on a singular duchy and contend with a court and actually engage as much as possible with the relationship systems in the game, something that having say 3 or 4 duchies in a kingdom that also has 3 or 4 duchies would not allow.
I think a lot of the "fun" in ck games is to be derived from the different relationship building blocks that you get from being a ruler, a husband, father, lover, religious follower, secret society member, patriarch, patrician, etc. Granted many of those simply don't exist in CK3. But no one is forced to play the inferior title either.
But more customization in the ruleset would always be welcome. If people want to throw the intended balance out the window for their own fun i think they should be able to.
Personally, I use this: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2220397689
