Is playing as a 1 count county any fun?
Has anyone enjoyed doing this?

Do you mean starting or staying there?
VoiD May 13, 2023 @ 7:34am
That's how I usually start, but it's hard not to end up as an emperor before your first sucession.

With most cultures CBs are completely ignorable, so you can just conquer everything nonstop, others can still do the same through holy wars, and if you're catholic you can very easily purchase a kingdom title from the pope, and since vassal contracts are so weak (and levies so useless) even a medium size count can beat the ♥♥♥♥ out of a king, or emperor, in a war, so the only way to not end up with those titles is by forcing yourself to play extremely poorly, pretending to be trying to expand, while refusing to simply expand or declare war against enemies you know stand no chance against you.

It's the best way to start unless you're a map painter. Staying a count basically means idling, there's no gameplay there

I'm barely surviving as a count right now. Is it fun? Well it's certainly exciting.

I've only done it once in my *rags to riches* achievement run. Starting as a count, I united Italy and (eventually) restored the Roman empire. It was an epic campaign that started in 867 and ended in 1453. The drama, faction wars, rebellions, and holy wars were insane. I almost lost everything in one of the faction wars but turned the tide at the last second. It was epic. I highly recommend starting as a count at least once. 👍

I do it as Ireland all the time. It's fun.

I always start as a 1 country count. Like Doc said, the stories that get told are the best part of all the CK series. T&T has just added to that.

Think of it this way....... You have nothing left to lose and everything to gain....

Play the meanest evilest weaselest most satanist of all nasties.

Take no prisoners!

I do it as the mann and isles / duchy of cornwall all the time. both can be 1/2 county kingdoms. i love to just sit back, develop, occasionally conquer a kingdom and give to my family members and let them rule it.

I think it depends on the county. Starting (and *staying*) a one-county count is a lot more viable in a *really good* county-- gold mines, special buildings, culture that works with the terrain, etc.

It's also easier as a vassal than it would be as an independent count, especially if there are a number of claimants coming after your county... or Norse raiders Varangian adventuring their way into your lands. Being a vassal also gives you access to mechanics to make your playthrough more interesting (petitioning liege, serving on council, vassal dynamics), which is key when so much of CK3 revolves around those who own multiple counties/duchies/kingdoms/etc.

I think trying to start and stay as a one-county count is a fun challenge... to see whether you can build a glorious dynasty while never owning more land. But as many of the other commenters have mentioned, sometimes the hardest part is staying in the one county rather than letting your lands creep outwards. :)

Stop playing on easy, play Ironman and stop using console.

Playing a single country rabbinic count in the Iberian struggle, so stared as interloper on Ironman. Been a huge struggle but lot of fun, Now close to reforming the roman empire - well territory wise. Until this latest patch which has sorta ruined things, for me at least

Yeah been playing a campaign starting as a Czech count in Bohemia, switched to the king to give me Caslav ( Which has a gold mine) and revoked my old county, it's been fun so far, considering I'm making more than the king.

In CK 2 yes, it is my usual start and its alot of fun.

Ive tried CK 3 during this free time and say no and the reason is this raiding mechanic. I did 2 starts, happened 2 times that a raiding party runs to my capital, sieging it, while I can´t raise army to defend the only thing i can do is watching my dutchy plundered, my council killed and my leader/main char imprisonated.
