AI
I've seen some bad programming in my days of being a gamer, but out of all paradox titles I have enjoyed playing Ck3 AI has got to be the worst.

1. AI cant manage supply. doom stacks often occur resulting in armies being killed by a silly mechanic. I would remove the supply mechanic. Sure the results would be doom stack vs doom stack, but at least battles take place.

2. The AI functions so bad at war mechanics, who to war against, and overall makes such bad decisions that it actually makes me uninstall the game.

Its not fun at all. I would LOVE to see some devs comment on this and make some improvements.

I have come back from taking massive breaks between patches to see if there has been some improvement. But coming back now, the AI is EVEN worse than before.

In my recent play through I had a war trigger with an ally righting a count who was trying to overthrow his rule. I joined, the army was 4000 vs 500. This is hilarious. What calculations are taking place that make the AI think this is a winnable fight.

There were no other wars, Just this one.
I was not at war with anyone else.

The AI THEN ATTACKED my army head on. Resulting in a wipe, the AI would then constantly raise 10 -15 men and just keep suiciding into my army.

I quit and uninstalled the game yet again.

Something is majorly broken with the game, and needs to be investigated.

AI war mechanics are supposed to be in this year's updates.

We shall see.

Who has said this?
They have only said, that they will port the Automatic Army Feature from Console Version.

From Dev. Diary #161: (Down in the 'Coming in 2025' section)

"We are, for example, looking into improving the Warfare AI in multiple ways (work on this is ongoing: we’ll see what the extent of the changes will be, so far they’re promising)!"

Don't get *too* excited; who knows what that includes.

I ill be waiting. If they do make any changes to AI the game will be at the very least playable.

I have not yet played a game through to the end for a very long time due to it.

The game is perfectly playable as it is, there's some annoying things happening from time to time but it really isn't that bad.

Yeah.. the amount of times I killed an AI army rather than a capital/settlement, i end up winning the war 90% of the time because they just sit in the corner going nowhere or suiciding into you
I think, the devs prolly left the AI dumb because some players struggle against a smart AI. Just my thinking. I imagine how great they'd be IF they could manage their troops better.

It's not that the AI is stupid. The AI is actually too op in some casers, they shoot you through bushes and other things without visual, they have god like aim depending on your settings. So I'm unsure what you're even yapping about

Total War games have a better AI, just think about that for a second.

doomstacking from ai is rare. i think the ai only does smart military plays as a conqueror character, but even then its pretty easy. on the topic of supply, i think supply shouldnt be lost over time. this means im just occupying, doing nothing, then attacking. i think supply should be lost from walking through enemy territory, taking attrition, fighting in battles, and occupying cities, instead of just over time. just find some mod to reduce the amount of conquerors and you wont see scottish Britannia

Might be cool if there was a supply convoy from spawn point to troops location that could be impeded by the enemy..like some supply ships or carts. When the supply reaches the troops, the resources increase...meh I dunno but, it's a cool idea.

No its not perfectly playable.

The AI is objectively really really bad.

Imagine for a second I sit down to play a board game with someone, who intentionally plays terrible, just making stupid moves that its so bad its inhuman.

That is how pathetic the AI is in CK3. It breaks an immersion you feel while playing. The AI needs some serious attention.

If people are worried about it being too hard if they make it better. Then give us a slider to adjust the AI.

I'd say the level of difficulty right now is set to retarded mode. Meaning even missing a few chromosomes you can still outsmart the AI.

AI was better in OLDER games. This cant be overstated enough. OLDER games bad better AI

Ck 3 has more variables then CK 2, making AI even more dumber then it was befoure.

The AI is objectively horrendous IMO. I did make a mod to help with this, but really it's just a bandaid and as has been pointed out, the AI needs some serious attention / tlc. However I did manage to make it so that the AI can actually hold a realm together...
