Modded CK3 not loading properly on my linux laptop

My laptop definitely has the specs to play CK3. However, when loading mods (so far I've tried Godherja, Princes of Darkness and A Game of Thrones), it tends to freeze on the loading screen before character selection, or at best immediately afterwards, for at least 30 minutes. (At which point, I tend to need to hard-reboot my computer). Is this an issue that anyone else is having? I play CK3 'for windows' using Proton, so it should be fine? Is it just some optimization issue on my end? Any suggestions for how to fix it?
