Problems Editing Save Files
I used to have no problem editing save files (specifically changing the DNA of a certain character) but recently I am no longer able to.

This is my process which used to work no problem:
  1. Copy save file from

    Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings III\save games

to another folder (usually Paradox Interactive).
  2. Rename the save file; specifically change the .ck3 extension to .rar
  3. Right click the compressed file and extract all.
  4. Open the gamestate file in Notepad++, make my changes, save the file. Then rename the file adding .ck3 on the end.
  5. Move the new save file to save games folder
  6. Load game from the new file
Now when I do this I get

Failed to Load Savegame
The savegame coukd not be loaded, this could be due to: • Savegame was made with an incompatible version of the game • Savegame uses a different set of DLCs • Save file is corrupted

—————
I have tried not making any changes to the gamestate file; just adding .ck3 at the end and loading it. Even that gives me the error.

I am running this on Windows 11. Version is 1.15.0.2.

I haven’t added any new mods recently. I’m running:
  • Battlefield Duel hotfix
  • Become a Blademaster by Winning Duels
  • Better Barbershop
  • Choose Throne Room
  • Clear Artifact Levels
  • Community Flavor Pack
  • Ethnicities & Portraits Expanded
  • Nameplates

I am having the same issue. Although I didn't use the exact same process, I used a very similar one by either just straight up extracting from the original save file and opening with Notepad++ and then renaming. I have tried the method described here https://www.reddit.com/r/CrusaderKings/comments/ilce32/editing_save_file_ck3/ , but it's much more roundabout than what I used to do. I could keep the save file open on Notepad++ and just save whenever I wanted to check if my changes would break the game or not, and now it takes a good chunk more time. If anyone has any news as to why the original method stopped working, I would love to know.
