Trying to launch and crashing

The game keeps crashing the second I press play or resume. It gets as far as the initializing screen and then crashes, but sometimes it doesn't even load to there. This happens as well if I launch directly from the steam folder rather than the launcher. I'm not sure why since I haven't loaded any game so it shouldn't be specific to the save. Do I have to get rid of all my prior save files to fix it? I'd really prefer to keep them...

In the launcher: Game Settings -> Graphics -> Renderer.

Try to change it to DX11.
