How to create new religion without being hostile?

I get that the game has 4 levels of animosity (or lack of animosity) for other religions. But I am wondering how I can tell if my new religion will be Astray VS Hostile or Evil.

To be clear, I was making a new Irish religion to replace Insular and I wanted to SOMEWHAT get along with Catholics. How can I tell when my religion is "Too Different"?

Also, is there a way I can take part in crusades if I am Astray or no? Or do I NEED to be catholic to fight along side other Christians?

So maybe you might understand it better as this: I wonder why the devs made 3 heretical branches of Christianity Ecumenical in the base game, yet new faiths that are even less of a threat are never considered Ecumenical.
