Muslims only consider you astry if your faith is of the same branch of Islam (Shia, Sunni etc), otherwise, they're hostile.
Eastern religions consider you astray if you belong to same religious family. So Hinduism considers Buddhism, Jainism etc astray. Christians and Muslims are considered hostile. India is a great place to play if you want minimal religious strife. Actually, India is a great place to play, period.
This[ck3.paradoxwikis.com] page will explain what you need to know.
Oh, and as for your crusading, it won't be done along side of other christians, it will be done in opposition to them. Maybe even against them (and them against you)
Good ser.
I AM the religious strife
I usually play a shattered world, with a custom character to create my own history. That might colour my opinion about the merits of playing in India.
With Muslims, it's due to a particular doctrine, where the Shi'a see other Shi'a as astray, the Sunni see other Sunni as astray, etc.
Not sure why their is no version of this for Christians.
Nope, it has nothing to do with doctrine, it's the branch of Islam the new faith follows that matters. You can have all your doctrines in direct opposition to a Muslim faith, and it won't matter so long as your branch is the same, you will be astray.
The branch of Islam, as you call it, is a Doctrine. See: meaning of Doctrine in CK3. It's actually called Muhammad's Succession. Had to look it up.
There is something like that for Christianity, it's called Ecumenism. If you don't have it, you are Hostile. If you do, you are Astray.
This is like the 3rd time I've said it in this thread.
Allow me to clarify: I don't know why there isn't something like that, WHICH CAN BE CHOSEN FOR A CUSTOM FAITH, for Christians. Ecumenism cannot be chose for any custom faith.
They weren't created through a synod or other religious council, so custom faiths are viewed as heresies by the mainline Christian schools. I said this too.
The fact that I included human sacrifice in my most recent religion probably doesn't help either.
As odd as it may seem, human sacrifice has no bearing on how a faith considers your faith. IIRC though, there might be a character opinion hit, though I'm not sure.
I was joking, but yes, severe character relations impact. When you sacrifice someone everyone close enough to be aware of it is horrified (If their religion doesn't accept human sacrifice) And naturally, their family gets slightly upset and sends you angry letters.
If you have the right tenet, you could offer to have them round for lunch so you could help them understand your faith's beliefs. ;)
