Can't revoke lease from hostile holy orders.
Created my own religion and now can't revoke some baronies from Catholic holy orders. I own the the county itself but I can't revoke the barony from the vassal which should own it.

Can't revoke the barony itself from my vassal: https://prnt.sc/12yxrlp

Can't revoke the lease even if I own the county directly: https://prnt.sc/12yxucz

Anybody have a solution for this?

i've encountered this before and it is definitely a bug. sometimes you can revoke the lease once you personally hold the county, but apparently that is not the case here.

at most you could try granting the county to someone else and revoking it again to see if that changes anything. i've also had some success switching characters to the count who owns the county and having him revoke the lease, though this cannot be done in ironman. if you don't want to earn achievements you could edit the save file to disable ironman.

other than that you could also switch back to the old religion, see if that allows you to revoke the lease and switch back again to the new religion when you have expelled them

tl;dr: it's a bug and a very annoying one especially considering that holy orders NEVER build buildings in their leased holdings which means you have a dead holding in your realm

If you have debug mode enabled on your game its actually pretty easy to solve. It seems complicated but once you do it you will realize its very simple.

First bring up the explorer using the tilde key ( ` ). Then go to the EXPLORE OBJECTS button and open it.

That will open the Object Browser. You will see a dropdown menu button that says Achievements.

Click on the Achievement Dropdown Button and go to the selection called Landed Titles.

Once in the Landed Titles menu go to where it says Search Key and type in the County, Castle, City or Temple name you want to have the Holy Order Revoked. (Make sure you type the EXACT name of the holding you want the Holy Order removed) Once you have done that click on the appropriate selection. After that you will see that the Object Inspector pops up.

Click on the Script Runner dropdown. You will see 3 options. Click on the Effect option. You will see a box where you may type commands. As you can see in my image a foreign Holy Order is present in one of my vassals city holdings. Lets make him go away.

WARNING: ENTERING COMMANDS AND EXECUTING THEM ALTERS THE GAME. YOU CAN SEE AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT CHANGES WILL BE MADE BY CLICKING ON THE PARSE BUTTON AND THEN CLICKING ON THE DEBUG OUTPUT DROPDOWN. TRY TO ALWAYS DO THIS AS IT MAY PREVENT YOU FROM MESSING YOUR GAME UP.

All you have to do is type the following in the Effect Box : revoke_lease = yes

Once you have confirmed that you entered the command correctly and the changes you wish to be made are confirmed you may then click on the RUN button. And just like that no more foreign Holy Order in my city.

All done. Revoking Foreign Holy Orders is in line with immersion so I personally don't see a problem with it especially since there is currently no fix for the problem as of yet. Have fun and always have a backup save file.

I've encountered this a few times. In my current game its definitely bugged. I created a new Christian Religion, conquered a county with a city leased to the knights templar, I have no option to revoke the lease. The reason I know its a bug is because if I click on the "city of wilton" barony title itself it shows a mayor of my religion... however when you click on the mayor character screen its shows that she is the mayor of the city of wilton but she has 0/3 holdings.

There's an easy solution in my guide :

Own the land in question that has the city leased to a holy order. Click on the title of the city and click on the owner. Grant this person (a city holder) a county. Then you will own the town directly and you will see the option in the following picture.

This worked exactly as described! You're a genius!

Not a bug. The thing is, you have to actually hold the city yourself to revoke from an enemy Holy Order. It took me about 2,000 hours to figure this out.

If you click on the city in question, click on the heraldry symbol for said city. This will bring you to a panel which shows the mayor of the city. He's just sitting there doing nothing while his city is leased out.

I figured out the problem once when a city in Spain came into my possession somehow through inheritance and the Revoke button popped up for an enemy holy order. And on top of that, you get a 250 piety bonus instead of having to pay 250 piety.

So to get the city out from under the mayor you need to own the county with the city you want and another open county. If you grant that mayor the neighboring county, he will leave his city and turn the neighboring county into a Republic, with the main castle becoming a "Grand City". Incidentally this is what I try to do to most of my territories because Republic vassals are far superior to feudals. But anyways now the city you want will belong to you because the mayor moved out, and the revoke button will pop up.

Not sure if this is how its "supposed" to work, but it is possible to revoke from enemy holy orders, just very difficult. Your AI mayor could always hypothetically revoke with the simple click of a button, but of course they never do, for some reason. Probably because the AI doesn't know your plans and if you're going to change religions or whatever.

oNeCoLdKiLLeR, you are never going to see this but I would like to compliment you anyway. Your instructions were spot on and saved me from the hell of perpetual semi-suzerainty over a county in the middle of nowhere that I unintentionally acquired during a war.

I found a video online explaining the easiest way to resolve this. Its easy when you see how he does it. Short of searching for that, I'd suggest that when you own the county, and another county you want to grant to a vassal, you can click on the city where the holy order is, find the vassal (the lessor, not the holy order), and hopefully it is someone of your faith. Grant that guy the county you don't care about. He will LOSE the city holding, and you will now own it directly. Now you can revoke the lease to the hostile holy order. Only downside is you had to give a county to a rando.
