Late Game Lag
Well I finally did it. After 2750 hours on CK2 and 1290 hours on CK3, I finally finished a campaign. No rage quit...no boredom quit...I made it until 1453.

The last 150 years were tiresome. 2 1/2 days of clicking through screens just to make it to the end.

I've looked at other threads covering late game lag, here are my thoughts.

With the time on my hands, I tried to figure out what made the game so slow. For the last 150 years of the game I stopped major expansion...only taking a kingdom per generation to make independent (for renown). Having a smaller realm did not speed up the game.

Then I looked at court size. With about 120 years to go my court size exceeded 300 (I like a polygamous religion...with 3 grandma wives, my physician, my spymaster, a backup and one young high stat wife). I was also keeping all daughters home with maternal marriages to bring in counselors and knights. While it did cause more pop-ups (child naming and court plots) and require more marriage management...it did not effect the daily run speed. (I started sending all kids to other courts through marriage and got my court down to 85...did not speed up game other then less pop-ups and marriages to handle).

My theory...what did effect the daily run speed was/is size of dynasty. Below you will see that at end game my living dynasty members numbered over 18,000.

I did some timed runs. At game start (just did this one) one year at highest speed will pass in 32 seconds. With about 120 years left it was one second for a DAY (living dynasty numbering about 12,000). The last 2 years of the game were 2 seconds per day.

My computer specs:

AMD Athlon x4 860k quad running at 3.70GHz with 8 gig RAM.
AMD Radeon RX 480 graphics card with 8gig video RAM.

On a side note...you will see I ended the game with 2 legacies remaining. I was 1000 renown short of the penultimate legacy (8 months with 104 renown coming in a month). I was short of finishing all legacies my about 15 years. I noticed...obvious now that I see it, but not until I saw it lol...that when the Kingdom of Georgia left the dynasty (the king became a different dynasty) my renown actually increased. This was due to there being 6 dukes of my legacy in Georgia. my renown went from +1 for the king to +3 for 6 dukes!

Let me know what you think guys,

Did you notice how much of your RAM it was using? I'm wondering how much of this is RAM-oriented, so I didn't notice anything close to that substantial a slowdown with my 32 GB. It's hard to say, though, as I don't have an AMD CPU, either. I'm sure it's not graphics, though.

Either way, though, I think you're definitely right about that. Living dynasty size has a huge impact on simulation speed.
I think that upping my system RAM would help a lot.
Its not just Your court But its also EVERY SINGLE OTHER CHARACTER ON THE MAP TOO that impacts it.

I bet Dead people also impact it hard...

Makes me wonder if theres a mod that removes Dead useless /and or long dead people so it potentially helps with performance...
