I always like getting flagellant , such a great trait.
I couldn't avoid it, because it was a rival message with no options.
Why we cannot go on a hunt or make feast as standard option, before we get bad traits?
then nobody would ever have a bad trait , they might as well not exist for the player.
dont think i have had a bad trait forced on me like that , maybe i am just forgetting . Or maybe thats why it hasnt annoyed me. I havent controlled a character with large stress for awhile , some characters it is nuts how fast they build up stress. Think thats just part of the game and having a trait system thats as random as it is.
My rival has constant riled the character up. There are really no options for those rival messages, just you got stress because rival dit that and that.
lol , i forgot about rivals , i do remember having that happen now you mention it , i found it funny to be honest and hated that guy as i couldnt kill him. I avoid rivals like smallpox now.
5% chance.
Technically you can sometimes, in single player anyway. If your stress goes over a threshold, you have an in-game day to lower it below the threshold before you get hit with a mental break, and there are plenty of things that lower stress without taking an in-game day.
So, if you're about to choose a decision option that will result in a mental break, pause the game first, then pick the option, then if you do something that instantly removes enough stress to put you below the threshold again (like hosting a feast/hunt, petting your cat, forgiving hooks, gifting money if generous, whipping yourself, etc.) you won't get hit with the mental break.
Unfortunately this doesn't help with random events that cause stress breaks, like family members dying, unless you're willing to play at the slowest speed. But it does help prevent stress breaks from popup events that pause the game for you.

And yeah, if you're Catholic, you can seek indulgences from the Pope to remove certain criminal/shunned fame traits, but not the 'coping' fame traits. Those are there to stay.
