Bastards are in fact free, but they count towards your living child limit, if they are your exposed Bastards, so the more known Bastards you have, the lesser Marriage Childs, you will get.

Do you also keep then as your lovers, or stop the scheme after the "one night stand"?
Fertility plays a huge part.
I keep them as lovers. Fertility is 100 on both (controlled in debug mode), many traits like Strong and Beautifull and Seducer lifestyle to increase the chances.
Fertility multiplier in the 00_defines is 1 like the main spouse.
It just feels like they never meet again despite beeing lovers and beeing in my court.
