How do I merge two Men at Arms regiments of same type?
I play HRE as a Premysl house with Male Preference House Seniority rule.

After my old emperor died, I got a new one who previously had his own Duchy with his own regiments. And so, he inherited regiments of my old emperor + his own, causing an odd situation where I have a duplicates, e.g. two 4/9 Light Footmen regiments.

Any way to merge them together, to resolve the issue?

Saddly it sounds like your boned then. As far as i know that is the only thing you can do in that situation. Delete it

aye you can't combine sadly. but there is a benefit for having two. now you can split your army and have that type of man at arms with each army. or if you get accolades that buff that Men at Arms type it gets useful in the long run. but if you can't afford to combine just keep them for now or delete them and save the upkeep cost

Are you suggesting that it's better to have 9 x 100 men regiments rather than a single 900 men regiment?

I think he's suggesting to have more than one men-at-arms unit for your individual armies, as I don't think there's a way to split or combine men-at-arms by regiment currently. The maintenance cost is linear, so adding another unit will have the same effect as adding another regiment to your existing men-at-arms.

I usually do two units of archers and one unit of horseman as Finland. I can split my army into two and have a unit of archers in each army to deal with any Norse invaders if they encircle me. Hope this explanation helps :104:

There are benefits, but they usually get eclipsed by the downsides. Especially at the beginning, when ressources are scarce, having 1 military county that you dogpile a single stack of quality MAA on, is way stronger, than having them split.

yea that's exactly what i meant. being able to split off your army is useful and necessary occasionally to either prevent attrition or having an independent seigeing regiment and a chasing regiment

yes super buffing one regiment is better that having two, mostly in early game, but you still will be going for having more than one regiment in the future and having more than one type of a regiment isn't a bad thing.
But the issue here is that he can't yet afford to fully fill a regiment. so for the time being deleting the spare regiment and waiting till you have enough money to fill the main regiment isn't the best plan imho, unless the upkeep is too much. Essentially what i am saying is that there will be benefits in the future so its not that you are screwed for being unable to combine them. but tbh light footman aren't the best for the MAA bonus stacking with their base being so low.

archers are pretty good to have multiples if you got both the archer and crossbowmen accolades as both increases the archer MAA size and buff thems. i got 40 size currently and i know i can make it bigger. not sure if there are other two accolades that buff the same MAA.
