Is there a particularly overpowered Duchy building at the minute?

Depends on what you need and how many counties of the duchy you posses. Also the development of the area. You can never go wrong with the Military Academy. * Knights and effectivness and stuff is always good.

Development one (Royal Reserves) for your capital duchy IMHO the best one - of course if you're cultural leader and investing in own development.

Military academies are second best one and my <3 once you're able to keep second duchy.

I like the academy for beastly knights.
Royal armoury is also good.
