Okay - I think I understand that. The person I have as the ward of my heir has okay statistics but does have Grey Eminence trait - is that a factor?
Grey Eminence would be a big boon, but only if your child's education focus is Diplomacy.
Gotcha - so the biggest bump would be aligning the trait of the guardian to the education focus of the kid?
Damn - I *always* forget about education focus. Gotta do better on that!
The learning skill of the guardian doesn't play a role.
Outcome of the educational trait is also random. Having a good spouse might help to improve this.
The most important thing are the personality traits of the guardian. He can have rank 4 education and 20+ in all skills, but if he is a craven gluttonous trusting person, then your heir will likely end up the same.
Children gain education points every years based on a few things
.6 X primary attribute (marshal for military training etc)
.4 X learning
Intelligence traits (quick, intelligent, and genius) give bonuses for both the guardian and ward
being a parent gives you a bonus...
The education level (1-4 stars) doesn't matter because the actual skill score does. Higher education levels give more points to a skill so they are naturally selected to do better.
Spouses give a bonus...though where and when is unclear...AKA marry high skill smart people.
there are a few other things but long story short focus on these things:
Primary skill + learning
Intelligence traits (quick, intelligent, genius) on both ward and guardian
skill points are transfered to children to a degree
But yea you just want to find a ward who has both special traits you would be interested in as well as a character with high skills you would want the child to specialize in. Because i believe a child with a ward will also start to gain numbers into the skills their ward has most of. So say you got someone in your family or in your court who has a high martial skill and you want your child to be a champion or just otherwise good at military stuff, you would make said person the childs ward because the chances of them getting a lot of martial skill as well as any special traits is pretty good.
