Educating Children
What's the best practice for educating my children? Should their ward/guardian be me? Should it be the person in my court with the best Learning statistic? Are my children more likely to have higher stats in the statistic their guarding has, or is Learning the only real factor?

Children gain education points every years based on a few things

.6 X primary attribute (marshal for military training etc)
.4 X learning

Intelligence traits (quick, intelligent, and genius) give bonuses for both the guardian and ward

being a parent gives you a bonus...

The education level (1-4 stars) doesn't matter because the actual skill score does. Higher education levels give more points to a skill so they are naturally selected to do better.

Spouses give a bonus...though where and when is unclear...AKA marry high skill smart people.

there are a few other things but long story short focus on these things:

Primary skill + learning
Intelligence traits (quick, intelligent, genius) on both ward and guardian
skill points are transfered to children to a degree

Learning is the second biggest factor on both ends, along with the education trait of the guardian (which I believe is most important, but I could be wrong). A guardian with a high-tier version of the trait you want your child to have is more likely to teach them well. Likewise, the Intelligent line of traits is a big help on both ends.

Okay - I think I understand that. The person I have as the ward of my heir has okay statistics but does have Grey Eminence trait - is that a factor?

Grey Eminence would be a big boon, but only if your child's education focus is Diplomacy.

Gotcha - so the biggest bump would be aligning the trait of the guardian to the education focus of the kid?

Damn - I *always* forget about education focus. Gotta do better on that!

Educate your own heirs, unless you want bad traits showing up

The learning skill of the guardian doesn't play a role.

Outcome of the educational trait is also random. Having a good spouse might help to improve this.

The most important thing are the personality traits of the guardian. He can have rank 4 education and 20+ in all skills, but if he is a craven gluttonous trusting person, then your heir will likely end up the same.

from what i understand you want to have someone whos got some decent relations with you to educate a child who also has one or more of those special traits off to the right side of your normal traits. I believe there is a chance that the child will grow up to have one or more of those special traits. If you use your character as the guardian, you'll get random interaction events with the child from time to time where it will allow you to keep or change their base traits.

But yea you just want to find a ward who has both special traits you would be interested in as well as a character with high skills you would want the child to specialize in. Because i believe a child with a ward will also start to gain numbers into the skills their ward has most of. So say you got someone in your family or in your court who has a high martial skill and you want your child to be a champion or just otherwise good at military stuff, you would make said person the childs ward because the chances of them getting a lot of martial skill as well as any special traits is pretty good.
Ive always aimed for level 4 education because a 30 percent bonus in comparison to 40 percent bonus can bw vwry big
