Should I fabricate a claim first or just declare war?
Just started a game as Vestfold and in the issues tab it suggested to fabricate a claim on Telemark but it also suggested to declare war on 8 others and Telemark was included in that list. So i just declared war on them without fabricating a claim. Is there any difference between fabricating a claim and just outright declaring war? It is now mine either way but i noticed i have 0 control over it and it will take my marshal 12 years to bring it to 100. Which is extremely long compared to my other game

You can declare war on it because you already have a claim.

Without some legal claim to a title, you can't otherwise declare war.

When you declared war, was there an ! on the declare button? if so, no, you should not had declared.

Yeah, if you have a claim on the province, your control over it will be 60 or so once you take it, as opposed to 0. So, it's nicer to have a claim, generally. Is it worth the extra coin you pay? Guess that's up to you.

You are playing as the vikings. you don't need claims to declare outside wars against different religions. You only need to claim for internal lands or against own religion,

Oh okay thank you, but if I had made a claim like the person above said would i have kept more control over it?

You are a tribe so you can use Piety to war with just about anyone. Fabricating a claim takes time/gold. Really it comes down to what is best for your kingdom.

Long term you will need piety to reform your faith which is a step to go feudal. You will also need gold for a lot of things. Gold is kinda easy to come by as raiding is a thing for you.

Control will take time no matter what you do.
