Character changed after successful crusade

I nominated my half-sister as beneficiary and now i suddenly play as her and i'm queen of Jerusalem.

Is this normal in CK3? Did i accidentally press a button? Can i go back to my original character? He is still alive and now my player heir. The heir to Jerusalem is my queen's son, who is a count somewhere in spain, but of course of a different dynasty.

I don't mind beeing queen of the holy land for a few years, but i'm afraid the ai will mismanage my dutchy.

If you're not playing in Ironman mode press Esc then choose the switch character option.

The game gives you an option, wether you want to switch over to playing your beneficiary (Crusader King/Queen) or keep playing your original realm.

Ok, thanks. That's what i wanted to know. So i guess i must have accepted by accident.
I tried to continue, but since i was a woman in my mid 40ies and all my children were different dynasties, everything went to ♥♥♥♥. Time to start a new game.

Uhm... If your children all would meat an unfortunate end, your heir would be someone else from your dynasty. It may actually fall to your brother or sister. So you may be able to save it and combine the realms.

So here's what happend so far.

I changed the succession to elective and voted for my previeous character, my brother the duke of Styria, as king of Jerusalem.

I failed to conquer Cyprus, but fought two defensive wars against muslim neighburs.

My queen got wounded leading the troops and died. And i was finally back to my old character. He might be a bastard, he might be gay, he might have terrible stats, but he's the king of Jerusalem. This makes my hometown Graz (my actual real live hometown) the capital of the kingdom of heaven.

And just when i thought i was safe.....

after i beat the neighbouring califate.....

the traitorous Unholy Unroman Emperor declared a de jure war on me....

My first game Which I'm still playing, it's currently 1309 243 years in) I started off as the count of Toulouse, quickly pressed my claims for the other county and then the duchy. After I became the duke My task then was getting as much power as I can in as short a time as possible until the crusades are called.When the crusade started I was ready and my men were already getting of the boats and was able to secure enough participation to put my younger brother on the throne of Jerusalem,

Playing as the newly crowned king of Jerusalem it was rough for the first few generations, several jihads were called against me. Being small I found the easiest way to fight them off was to mobilise my army and siege down enough of there land to force a white peace before they had a chance to overwhelm me. I was even able to expand a little by declaring wars of opportunity and picking of small bits of land when I could.

The start was a real struggle to survive, many time I thought about swearing fealty to the Byzantine Empire if I could just get a land border.But after a century or so of slow expansion and alliances with heavy hitters like the ERE and HRE it got to the point when I was stronger than the Muslims and I started winning wars without needed help.

Then I spent a few generations working as hard as I could on building prestige and managed to create the Outremer culture.Then setting my sites on finishing and creating the Outreme Empire.

All in all I was having a blast in my little corner of the world playing with the Muslims. It was not long after this that something unexpected happened, the HRE had been doing well for itself, It had stayed mostly intact, managed to swollow Poland, Hungry, Sweden and Norway, it was at this point when the emperor dies and they decide to vote me in as the new Holy Roman Emperor with no way to loose the title since I dont have the required land to make the Arabian Empire yet.
