Insularism is considered astray... by itself.
Quite the bizarre bug here. As the insular ruler of Ireland, my character suffers all the penalties from being considered as astray by every other character and location. This leads to abnormally low opinion from people like family members and my own realm priest, which leads to the hilarious situation of my own local leader in faith considering his own faith to be astray. My held counties too give me negative public opinion, which means doing county conversions can actually decrease public opinion.

If anyone knows a fix for this I'd greatly appreciate it!

the bug comes from the rite tenet i think. so until they fix it switch to catholic faith or make a faith without the rite tenet. i dont think where is a quick fix for it now.

Thanks, I'll reform the faith and remove that at some stage. I'll probably have to conquer most of the British isles to do that though, considering where the holy sites are. Kinda sucks I have to deal with the consequences of the bug before that, but I guess it just means playing in hard mode lmao.
