Loading a game takes forever
I have a persisting issue that the games take around 15 minutes to boot up, my PC is beefy enough that I have no problem with any other game(Paradox Games including) and I don't use any mods.

Has anyone encountered the same issue and is there a way to resolve it?

I have a very powerful PC and it can take 1 or 2 mins, I consider that slow. I don't even see how it could take 15.

To be better able to help, I have some questions:

1) Are you subscribed to any mods, and not have them activated in your playset?
-if yes, try unsubscribing. I believe that the game still loads these files during start-up.
2) Is your game on an SSD drive?
-An SSD will substantially reduce load time.
3) How much RAM do you have?
-If the game is loading and being transferred between RAM and your disk drive that will slow down load time.

*** As I typed, I just realized that the easy fix would be to delete all but your most current save game files. A huge amount of save game files will cause issues.

If you've ever installed mods i'd try a clean reinstall. It's basically what I do every time I go from modded CK3 back to vanilla.

In order to ensure every trace of the game is deleted, you could try this:

After uninstalling the game, an additional thing to try would be to manually delete all game files and mods that may not have been during the uninstall process; CK3 files are located in the C:\Users\(username)\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings III directory and the Steam game directory C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Crusader Kings III and the mod files are located at C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\workshop\content\1158310.

The drive letter may not be "C" for all users, if an SSD drive is utilized for example.

Thanks for the reply.

1)The game is 100% vanilla no mods subscriptions
2)The game is on SSD drive
3)32 GB

I just tried launching it now and it took 11 minutes to load. I previously went through the usual motions of updating drivers, checking for corrupted files, and reinstalling. The strange part is it takes so long to initialize after i get to the title screen I have no trouble starting a new game and it runs fine. i played Vic 3 which has higher requirements and never had such problem.

I tried deleting the save files and so far no change.

You are not going to believe this, I've tried launching through executable instead of Paradox Launcher and it only took 4 minutes.

Why?

The Paradox Launcher is famously weird. For a lot of people it works perfectly. For others, it works perfectly, then just breaks after an update, then starts working perfectly again after a different one.
To me for example, it recently developed a weird thing, where it somehow hangs up the entire computer when it opens, *except* if I quickly click on Launcher Settings the first chance I get, because for some reason being on the 'home' page of the launcher with all the ads and whatnot causes the launcher to go crazy and start eating absurd amounts of resources while it turns on, but it works perfectly fine if I switch into the system settings tab, and wait until it's done doing all the little start up tasks like syncing playlists and so on.

My advice, don't question it. If launching via the executable works for you, count your blessings because the launcher is a fickle god.

Haha yeah, the next time you have a problem someone will say "Start it with the executable" and round we go!

My game is near enough the same:

1)The game is 100% vanilla no mods subscriptions
2)The game is on SSD drive
3)16 GB

Just did a test launch and it only took 2 minutes, as mentioned could the problem be with the Paradox launcher itself? Would deleting the launcher and doing a fresh install of the paradox launcher help?
TheLoneWanderer Sep 24, 2024 @ 9:08am
wow, 11 minutes loading with 32 GB, the game on SSD, and no mods is not typical at all.

Perhaps you could exclude the Paradox launcher and game files from your real time anti-virus (if you have one that is).

i have like 15 mods installed and it takes literally less than 30 secs to load up.... hmm do you guys have like a ton of savegames in ck3?
Cause i heard it slows down loading up the game or loading a game if you have tons of savegames.
C:\Users\docto\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings III\save games\ and then copy paste the folder to save them and delete savegame folder or just rename it and it will generate a new savegame folder. <3 worth a shot
