Landed El Cid but not in Iberian Struggle???

King Sancho trusted Rodrigo's loyalty and landed him (Mio Cid achievement). So now he's got 4 counties in Castille but is NOT part of the Iberian Struggle so pretty hamstrung. Is this a bug or a feature -- or can a landed character join the Struggle if right culture and capital is inside, and I just can't find the botton/decision???

I have not played as El Cid but when you start the game, don't you start in Iberia and the first notification you get is for the struggle?

i have been playing landless since RTP came out and I usually start in Al-Laqant (Murcia) and the first notification I get is the struggle which means you are part of it. I guess if you don't see that when you start it means you are not involved. Involvement is based on culture and if you have land in the struggle area. My created character is Castilian so I get involved based on that is my assumption. You would also see the struggle icon in the bottom right of the screen that you click on to access the struggle options. You don't ever decide to join or not. It is automatic.

Well, never mind? I just reopened that run and now the struggle logo is back in lower right and all seems normal for Count Rodrigo. Now I'm really confused...

Did you hybrid/diverge culture? You need 80% of your culture inside the struggle

nope, still Castillian. King Rodrigo has since taken the rest of Castille from Sancho, and is pushing E/SE

i've been getting UI glitches where stuff disappears, like the notification banner but comes back if you go to the Esc menu. Maybe the struggle icon was just glitched.
