New DLC is a Heat Monster?
I'm rather pleased with the vast array of games that my newest gaming desktop can handle. I was very surprised when I noticed what seemed like an excessive heat radiating off my computer when playing CK3 with the new Road to HeatPower DLC. Today, in the middle of executing a savegame, I literally got the BOD with the ever-unpleasant message "Locking" (first time I've ever seen it on this computer).

Anyone else notice this? Is anyone else finding some good ways to counter this? Maybe some absurd settings that were affected that can be reverted back through some slider or file modification?

The new DLC def screwed with something cause my GPU used to play Ck3 ez on High Settings and now it def causes my fans to speed up. Probably the devs fault for rushing this TURD out.

Even if the game is maxing out on resource usage, your computer should be able to handle that. If it can't, your computer is insufficiently cooled.

Even if it was a subpar CK3 update that revealed this fact to you, that fact is game-agnostic. It's time to reapply your thermal paste, get some heatsinks, and add another fan, before you ruin your $1500 toy.

Absolutely feeling the same thing. Was playing in a room with a closed door, and all of a sudden I asked myself, "Why is it so hot in here?"

I notice no difference with mine. Doesn't even touch GPU hardly. About 20% of CPU with spikes to 25 to 30%. 9 gigs of ram. Mine is all AIO though so maybe that is difference, the fans just don't go crazy.

Two things I want to say. First, what a fun little term you have there. Kudos to your intelligent post. Obviously, I do have to be careful here.

Second, I think it's probably not a good idea to be so passive about placing blame, a "map-based" game should never push this GPU to its limit, it's irresponsible coding on the dev part.

Games def not as Opt as it was before this DLC.
My 3060 is running slightly hotter then it used to and fan speed kicks up once the game gets going.
Like I said probably on the Dev/Game side of things, not your PC.
Hopefully they will rush out some Patches with optimization fixes.

We've seen it before... and this game isn't unique in that respect. New EPIC-sized DLC needs some fine-tuning.

Map based games can have far more calculations going on than your average game, especially for a game like Crusader kings where its trying to track literally thousands of characters each doing many multiples of different actions, with another hundreds of events being generated, in addition to rendering the map and what is happening on the map. The emphasis on "map" for "map games" generally just means they tend not go as hard on graphics, not that they can't be incredibly resource hungry/intensive.

They, like any massive simultaneous calculations game can be very demanding... and your point is very valid... but so is mine. I hope this can get some "reasonable" optimizations soon.
