Difference Matrilineal marriages "Default" vs "Always"
I am wanting to play with my wife, who will want to play women rulers (I have this thread about it https://steamcommunity.com/app/1158310/discussions/0/4758602630162633465/ ), the options in Game Rules menu confuse me, what is Matrilineal Marriages "default" vs "always"? The description text in "always" is cut so it's really a weird thing to understand. And as a bonus if you can tell me how this mods plays into both of these options https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2255724134 ?

On this site https://ck3.paradoxwikis.com/Game_rule the text explains (in other words than the game seemingly)

default: "AI characters will arrange matrilineal marriages if they belong to the player's close family, a Reputable Dynasty, an Equal realm, or are strong rulers
Female Dominated realms default to Matrilineal "

always: "AI characters will arrange matrilineal marriages for all female Dynasty members unless target belongs to a Reputable Dynasty, an Equal realm, or are strong rulers"

What? xD Can someone explain in plain English... ?

Thanks in advance!

Same with "Female Dominated & Equal".. it says on that web page

"AI characters will arrange matrilineal marriages if part of a Female Dominated or Equal realm unless target belongs to a Reputable Dynasty or are strong rulers"

Really confused now, especially because only in "default" it says "Female Dominated realms default to Matrilineal".

In "default" option it means that AI will never accept or do matrilineal marriage unless the character (woman) is a close family member of a player, or from a reputable dynasty, etc etc.

In "always" it means that AI will accept (and do) matrilineal marriage, unless the target (man) is more "valuable" than the woman.

And it goes both way : who's the stronger/more valuable, get to have a marriage that will profit his/her dynasty. Not sure if it's quite clear ? Tell me if it isn't lol

I guess it's a bit confusing because in "default" it takes the woman's point of view, whereas in "always" it takes the man's point of view (when saying "unless target belongs to...")

To add to that, if you play with "default" you shouldn't have any issue with your own character and close familiy member, but if you get to expand and gives titles to women of your dynasty, they might (and most likely will at some point) make patrilineal marriage for themselves (unless you babysit them) or their daughters.

If you play with "always", there should be a lot more matrilineal marriage in the game in general, so sons of any ruler are more likely to get matrilineal marriage, whereas in "default" it would almost never happen unless it would come from the player.

Thank you that was indeed very explanatory. What about "Female Dominated & Equal" would that be the correct choice if I had a scenario like described in the end of the other thread with a non-male dominated succession? So would in that case all go as normal/default except for in example Daura had I chosen the matriarchy option?

"Female dominated & equal" for matrilineal marriage would be the way to go yes. Though (unless you find a start with a "femal dominated" or "equal" succession law by default), you'll have to change it, which you'll need to wait for feudality if I remember correctly ?

Yes, there is the one from Daura where you start with an "equal" sucession law and fortunately only needs limited tribal authority to go female dominated. So all would be default and that particular Title would be inherited matrilinealy as far as I understand, which is what I wanted, thank you!
