If my wife complains about that sort of thing, I think the best option is just to tell her that she's overreacting. She stops complaining if you do that. If you appease her whims she will just continually complain about the next steward over and over. You'll get an opinion hit with your wife but that doesn't affect much honestly.
Councilors are almost useless. The Steward is only useful to convert a county to your culture
Otherwise you can even leave the seat vacant, it makes no difference. Same for master thief who never interrupts a scheme and for the diplomat who is just here to provide a job to one of your powerful vassals.
I hope the next Royal court DLC will fix it and make the councilors useful.
What are you talking about. First off, there are breakpoints for random events. If you have below 8 skill, you cannot trigger positive events. If you're at 15 or more, you can not trigger negative events. Based on that alone, a score 1 steward is only going to trigger negative events and a score 32 steward is only going to trigger positive events, which makes a big difference. The free gold event a steward gets scales with his score. You can easily get 100+ gold in the early game with a 15+ steward for doing absolutely nothing, and it goes higher the more skill she has.
If you ever try using a skill like convert county/culture, you're going to see an absolutely ridiculous difference in the speed at which a score 1 steward vs score 32 is.
And especially for the steward because he handles develloping counties and which is crucial to get techs and building which always takes forever.
If anything I consider any steward with less then 18 in the skills to be unnacceptably incompetent at the job and will replace him as soon as possible.
