Will they ever add Japan?`
so much potential for a domestic campaign or a uno reverse mongol campaign or just a hypothetical non isolationist campaign

Probably not.
The game's performance gets worse with each update, there's still no real content focused on mega-empires, and you want them to EXPAND THE MAP? Just use a TC mod to play in a different area. Pretty sure there's also a map expansion mod that does exactly what you want.

Map Expansions are are on the long-term floor plan. So yes, it's possible that one day, Japan could be added to the map... but that is a very long ways off I imagine.

Will just be more map to ignore and even slower game performance. Maybe DLC we can just not buy? Aztec nonsense for the 'win'. ;)

This exactly. That entire 3rd of the map is nothing but a sink.

the northeast of the map is boring once you remove Genghis Khan. its just "tile with 3 development and 1 building"

The game title is Crusader Kings, so its primary focus is on Europe. I suspect the main reason the Mongols were included was due to their impact on Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Japan had no such influence on European affairs. At the game's start points, no one in Europe knew Japan existed. Japan itself had little impact on others outside their islands until 150 years after the game's end point.

There is More Bookmarks+ that does that. There is also a quite extensive patch. It includes mods for performance, among other things. But read the description very carefully regarding the correct structure of the whole thing.

They would just make a game for it, as they already have (Sengoku), Although parts of China may come later, I highly doubt it would even extend to the pacific coast.

It would probably be more west and north China and Mongolia.

HOWEVER, We DO now have a base form of Imperial China's government. As they had a similar governor based administration system.
