Crusader Kings III

Vezi statistici:
Is it just me who wants a 1300 start?
I want a 1300 start because my campaigns are usually short so why not have a start date that's like 150 years away from the end?

TBH i never understood why people like the 867 start out of principle, unless there is a historical reason. Like wanting to specifically play "Vikings" or Karlings or the Abbasid / Umayyad Caliphs.

In 867 you have no technology, no income, no laws, no nothing. Many essential laws are centuries away. Most cultures only have 1 build slot, and cannot even build cities or temples, and as such also no castles. Waging wars without at least Onagers is terrible. Tribals are vastly overpowered in every aspect, especially when conquering other tribals while raiding feudals.

Haven't played the new later start date yet, but i'd assume you would mostly do so for historical bookmark reasons.

1066 seems to be the sweet spot around which the whole technology concept is designed.

I preferred how it was setup in CK2, where you could start at any date between 1066 and 1453.

I have a feeling we may get starts later then earlier.

Next year is heavily hinted to have trade and republics in some capacity. They constantly mentions things that IIRC are around the 1300s (marco polo.)

I would assume this will be added throughout 2025. They have already said they have DLC up to 2026, already planned.

You're describing why I like 867 so much!

The main reason is still definitely that it's a longer game. The further away I am from the end date, the better. But building up from nothing is appealing too. Same reason I always start in the first age when I play Civ etc. I like having nothing and unlocking everything as I go.

Yeah, basically it's far easier to carve out a slice from the earlier starts, because huge chunks of the world are split into painful blocks the later you go. 1178 is an interesting start, but sieges take forever even with trebuchets and the boosted development/culture/income means that suddenly everyone is going after everyone at light speed and multiple decisions either aren't available that late or just aren't practical to chase after.

Been thinking this for YEARS. 867 is so lame, for all the reasons you described and more. I remember getting a lot of hate on reddit when i made a post about this. Not disagreement, sheer hatred. This "community" is so weird.

I mainly like the new 1178 start date because you are closer to things that i studied about, like war of the roses, hundred years war, the other crusades, byzantium being imploded, the mongol invasion, etc. It is still not enough however. My favorite start date on ck 2 was 1337 as the ottomans or kingdom of naples. It was so fun.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic like me or serious lol

Not sure what you mean, they have stated them-self, that they have DLC planned through 2026.

They can keep making more after that point, but that is not yet determined as a certainty. I'm sure we will get at least another year on that. I hope.

I mean if the DLCs keep being htis buggy and messed up, I doubt anyone is looking forward to it
I love starting at low tech and grinding my way up to the top. Reading these posts does remind me I should check out the newer starts, might be more fun. Right after I create the empire of cumania from the 867 start. Horse archers are hella fun

I like 867 because the HRE is not formed yet 😅. But the bordergore is so bad

As a fan of both CK3 and kingdom come deliverance, i would love to be able to play around 1403 to teach a lesson to Sigismond of Hungary.

But for me ,the ultimate dream would be marco polo era and asia expansion.
