Conqueror Trait- What was the logic?
It's hilariously over powered isn't it.. I mean it is so over the top it's hard to believe it's not a troll by someone working there.

And the sad thing is I fell for it. Probably not the only person who walked away from the game a while back due to its direction but I came back after what is - and may be - a return to form with the Roads to Power DLC, I even bought a few, and then this popped up. I want my money back but again it's too late. I keep wanting to believe in CK3 and they keep letting me down. Fool me really I suppose.

It's honest insanity. If it was mod in the workshop it would be laughed at. I can't lose. I can just keep painting the map. There's no challenge, nothing as long as I keep declaring war. WTF have they done this time? It's like watching the dungeon master in a pen and paper RPG hand out infinite re-rolls almost: what was the thinking? Was there any!!!

I know they wanted to focus on the RPG mechanics with 3, and I cheered but the whole direction its taken is that that a ten year old would blush at. Even if they take their heads out of their backsides and dial it back, which is part of the form to be fair and always has been, but this is some new level.. I'm honestly speechless. It even passes down through the generations, god like. Did no one say 'this is silly' .. at all..?

If they wanted an 'experience the game without challenge mode' just make it a difficulty setting or something.

Tbh, Conqueror should be AI only. And inheritable to children.

Aside that - yeah, kinda insane how many bugs and ridicolous bs there is in this game

I'm pretty sure you can turn conqueror to be ai only, or off completely, in the settings. I've seen the ai create cool kingdoms I've never seen them create before, so for me, it adds replayability

ok but cmon, complaining about this is the same as complaining about plagues.

There is literally a GAME RULE OPTION to turn conquerors off completely(same as plagues).

I've beat back AI w/Conqueror trait. I've had characters with Conqueror trait. I'd say, the ONLY Superior Benefit is when you have a squabbling empire. The rest of the time it just feels like you don't really have to pay for your armies so you can wage war at will...but...Im just not a map painter so...doesn't really inspire me.

You can refuse to take the trait aswell. Even after you have taken the trait it will randomly ask if you want to ditch it. CK3 has many messed up mechanics but the fact the conqueror trait is your biggest peeve is quite...bizarre.

CK2: Let's add a Threat mechanic so nobody can blob too hard

CK3: Let's add a Conqueror mechanic so a few people can blob real hard

But yeah you can disable it. I also found it more interesting when several players in a region have it, including the player. Makes it so the game doesn't end up being so one-sided in favor of the player.

You can also add the trait manually to selected AI players with a cheat mod. So it doesn't roll on 3 guys in asia where it doesn't concern you in europe.

The only thing that needs to be disabled is the additional great conqueror buff, because that one is what's really overpowered. Just the extra siege progress is crazy.

Oh no... A new feature I don't like that I can easily turn off in the options screen.

How could they do this too me. The humanity of it.

Though it breaks ironman, which doesn't really matter a lot anymore except for oldfarts like me who want to play Crusader Kings the "true" (subjective opinion, calm your pants) way.
Pretty much all of Legends of the Dead should be fully optional in my opinion, this game is bloated with so many ♥♥♥♥♥♥ mechanics and so much undercooked content from all the garbage DLC's already that, the more I can choose to turn off, the better.

Turning conquerors off doesn't disable achievements, if that's what you meant.

BTW the funny thing is, you can even use a mod to e.g. set the Ruler Designer point limit to let's say 4000 and still get achievements. It is only one legit change in the defines.

Hi,

Thanks for telling me it could be turned off. It was a raging post but I stand by the reasoning even if the delivery was bad. It's just indicative of how they work now... It's an IMO and a huge one: but everything since the Norse DLC has been mostly good ideas, delivered terribly. Roads to Power seemed like a return to form for me, but every silver cloud I examine has a dung filled lining.

I've 'zero' problem with a win mode in a single player game but for me.. that was just silly. But then it's not just that one thing..

Those who disagree are free to of course and continue to enjoy the game.

Thanks

what is a win mode this is a rp game not a map painter

But stuff like this turns it 'into' a map painter. If all your vassals are cheering you, throwing money at you, encouraging and demanding you to blob - and the mechanics make it easy to blob as well, then that's exactly what they've made.

The description even says in game it's to 'conquer the world' There's even a penalty for NOT taking it. Have a read, that's what it wants you to do.

I was excited as anyone when it was going to be an 'RPG' game focus, I mean that. But you still need to gel it to the base game. The only role playing in this at the moment is being a god figure, which at least to me, isn't that interesting after ten minutes or so.

And there's been a lot of that in CK3: mechanics that have been thrown in with no thought of effort. The regency mechanic for example .. it's just awful imo and doesn't do the subject justice.

How we went from the mostly brilliance of CK2 to this is just tragic, really tragic. CK2 had some rough moments sure but nothing like the continual disappointments.

I just had conqueror pop in the first 10 years of a Count (/Jarl) Haestinn campaign. Made it a bit easy (and county to empire's already not the hardest with him)... Also does anyone know how the inheritance works with the default rules? Is it like the Mongols where there's a chance of losing it every generation? The King of France also got it when I did but his son's since lost it where-as mine still has it.
Rattay Nov 29, 2024 @ 9:46am
I had a quick glance at the wiki - as you might guess I wasn't impressed - but it seems as though it is inherited. My in game descendants certainly got it.
