I don't understand the wandering noble thing
I tried several times to play as a wandering noble. El Cid, for exemple. So you try to get money through a contract, which takes FOREVER (like a year) to finish, and it may fail eventually. Then...what are you supposed to do ? Hire mercenaries and seize some territory once you have enough money ? How do you get fun out of all this ? Genuine questions.

When you're just starting out, choose Contracts with a guaranteed time frame and no failure chance, such as Travel Contracts. Once you build up a camp full of capable Followers, you can start taking on Scheme-based Contracts, as they'll become a lot faster to complete, with a higher success chance.

Mercenary Contracts are also always a viable choice, once you have a few Men-At-Arms.

I traveled quite a bit and never saw anything like that. But maybe I should look better. Thank you for the advice.

I see it as the equivalent of EU4's custom nation start. Just a bonus way to start the game that's handy if you either don't know what to play as or if starting as a specific or already established ruler harshes the vibe.

My goal is almost always to leave the adventuring path asap

You should rarely if ever take scheme contracts. They are very time consuming and rarely make you more money than a normal one.

If you're going to play as an adventurer, you should have a goal in mind. Building the biggest mercenary company in the world and influencing major wars. Becoming a prophet-like missionary and spreading your faith across the world(which you can easily do within 3~ lives). etc. You'll definitely get more out of the feature if you enjoy roleplaying.

Otherwise, there are purposely many opportunities to become landed once more if you just don't enjoy adventuring. The devs didn't want people to feel forced into playing landless for a long time.

The best way to make money/prestige, in my experience, is combining criminal contracts (at first, to maximise money so we can build all the camp upgrades/recruit MAAs) with the right camp upgrades (lockwagon, mortician's tools) so we can then start joining wars (you can join any ruler's wars as a wanderer and they can't say no) and that lets us fight battles for massive money/prestige. I focus on getting prowess/martial recruits so 1) we can do those contracts more easily and 2) we're stronger in battles when the time comes for that (best place to get these peeps seems to be visiting castles). It's a bit repetitive but that's my generic wanderer strategy.

Some of the historical characters have slightly more interesting mechanics. Hasan-i Sabbah for example lets you start a massive empire collapsing revolution where you get troops based on how many of the empire's counties you've converted to Nizarism so maybe try one of those characters if you're finding the generic wanderer experience a bit boring. El Cid's a bit more generic. I just did a more chivalrous (no criminal contracts) version of my regular strategy then conquered Toledo and played normally from there.

Just a quick question - Are you actually adding your camp followers are agents in contract schemes? Doing it by yourself is going to be quite the slog.

Well I don't see any other way to make money.

Sounds nice. I'll sure give it a try.
