How do you make pilgrimages more pious?
I've gone on 10+ long pilgrimages with roundabout journeys and the only times I get opportunities to make the pilgrimage *more pious* is during random events at the actual holy site like "you can stay and become a monk/nun," or "ah, this map is actually blah blah blah," but not on the way there. There's the odd "sprinkle holy water/coins," or "bless diseased person's foot" or something which give my character about 50-100 piety depending on my choice but it doesn't make the actual pilgrimage more pious. I'm lucky if I trigger enough events at the holy site to get me to the very first piousness tier.

Is it different for you guys? Is there a mod interfering with my pilgrimages and preventing these events during the journey from making the pilgrimage more pious? What are your experiences?

EDIT: I think I've figured out what was wrong. I always picked the "altruism" or "zealotry" focus for my past pilgrimages but this time I chose "reflective" and lo and behold, I'm getting piousness-increasing events left and right on my way to the holy site. Weird design.

The only pilgrimage I regularly find fills up the bar is the Hajj (Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca). I don't tend to struggle maxing out piety though even with the religions with less awesome pilgrimage events. Funerals are good for it if you've got that DLC.

Maximising pilgrimages is tough and I usually don't worry too much about. It does depend somewhat on your religion and tenants. I've personally had more success with characters that are in the learning lifestyle and have the wise man/woman trait. This is partly because some of the events have better outcomes. I'm also not sure if you may have a random chance of getting different events depending on lifestyle / traits.

but not on the way there.

This actually surprises me. I get the "follow the sacred animal" all the time which definitely increases the pilgrimage piety meter.

Have done 4 or 5 pilgrimages and never managed to get more then the first score regardless of how I go about it. Playing with no mods.

The longer the pilgrimage the higher the chance you get events on your way.

You can costumize your route to make it longer, but it usually only has a small impact on the piousness. I usually make it to lvl 2 or 3, unless its a short piglrimage

They basically nerfed that piousness bar into the ground right after tours and touraments launched because it was giving out too much piety... now you gotta basically travel all over the map to MAYBE get more events to fire to do it which is just a waste of time.. better off just a humble piligrimage on all of your holy sites then wait the 5 yr cooldown which if you do all 5 back to back will probably be back up in no time.. =\
