how do you adopt someone else's child?

i was playing multiplayer i got good congenital traits and another player adopted one of kids he got kicked from the game before i could ask him how though, how do i do that?

Compassionate trait or noble adoption tradition. Parents need to be unlanded usually with at least 1 dead.
