How to trigger mind-break Intrigue Lifestyle event
So yes, like the title.

Not to be confused with the similar and somewhat related but distinct torturing (dealing health penalties and stress to the tormented prisoner) and mental break (characters losing it after going over a stress level), I am specifically talking about the event as stated in:

ckIII/game/events/lifestyles/intrigue_lifestyle/intrigue_dread_events.txt

Which is labelled as "# Mind Break"

I had it triggered before when I was playing, but I forgot the conditions that caused it to trigger other than I've been using an Intrigue lifestyle and have a few prisoners under my captivity. And now I have problem replicating it.

I tried using debug to have my character have intrigue lifestyle, intimidation focus. And the prisoners to be the sons and daughters of my rival count-ruler next to me. This should, if my guessing was correct, fulfill the condition of:

scripted_trigger intrigue_dread_4001_rival_relative = {
save_temporary_scope_as = candidate
root = {
any_relation = {
type = rival
is_close_or_extended_family_of = scope:candidate
}
}
Of what I guess is that you need to take the close/extended family of your rival prisoners for the event to trigger. But I've been waiting for 45 years, and nothing has happened.

Am I doing or understanding something wrong? Feel free to correct me.

The character you want to mind break has to be an adult unlanded (adventurer) that is not played by another player.
A suitable candidate is not only a relative of a rival, but also anyone close to a vassal of yours or your liege, as long as the vassal/liege in question is not in a war.

The rest comes down to RNG whether or not the event fires or not.
If you want the "candidate" to survive the event as mind-broken they should be as healthy as possible and you have to use corresponding choices in the event (i.e. starve a gluttonous character, etc.).
And it is helpful if you have the Torturer trait, as it will be more likely to trigger, but can only trigger once per character. It also tries to fire only in five year intervals, meaning if a needed condition changes when the event tries to fire, it won't try again for five years. At least that should be the case if I understand the event file correctly.
