When creating a new game, you can edit the game settings to minimize it (while still being able to get achievements).
Or turn it off completely in the settings before starting the game (unable to get achievements).
They changed that with an update after enough people complained about plagues. You can turn them off completely now and still get achievements (not including a 1 time shot of the buboes, of course).
Ahh ok, thanks. I think I did my game with the "One Time Buboes" thing but had it set to "Not near Europe" or whatever that option was haha. I haven't seen it yet since starting the earliest start. It is about 1010 now.
Been seeing some sexualy transmitted plague though or something haha.
Great pox often starts as lovers pox; I think it is the game trying to sneak it in on you when you're not paying attention. :)
All the diseases are still there; they just won't spread with the plague mechanics, and all of the associated options and events, if the plague update is disabled. The game still notifies you, most of the time, if a courtier gets a serious disease in your court.
It is in the basic game in the game settings when you first start/load the game. The game settings where you choose all the options for the game (bubonic plague, difficulty, how many domains, etc.) If you have the plagues showing up, you should have the game setting option for it. Unfortunately, you will have to start a new game for a change in game settings to take effect. It will not change with a saved game - and I do not know of a workaround for that.
They did. Originally, they worked even worse (more frequently and 'bigger'), had some event bugs, and you couldn't turn them off even if you wanted to.
I think they need to rework them completely. They were an attempt to limit overall population and development levels in the mid to late game. What they do is completely smash those in the early game and do not fit well at all with how stress works. :(
