Vassal allies
Why can't I call a vassal ally to join my wars? Makes no sense to me.

Because your vassal is already doing his job in providing you his levies

Also your enemies cannot call their vassals either. There are mods that allow that to happen though, but I would assume the game would just become a snowball fest where large empires become unstoppable.

Probably because it would be absurdly OP.

Imagine playing a Clan Muslim realm, marry your 12 sisters to your vassals after succession, and negotiate alliances with your (half) brother vassals.
Then you would not only get 100% of your vassal's levies by calling them to war, but also all their MAA. This would be completely disproportionate against others who don't have this option.

Having alliances already prevents them from joining factions, which is more than good enough. Their contributions are settled with feudal contracts or clan opinion rules.

According to my limited understanding of arabic history, this is exactly what was happening.

There needs to be more finesse to the rule. My immediate family, that I have good relationships with, would not come to my aid when my kingdom attacked?

I don't know in what history individual lords would not assist their well-liked liege in fighting off invasion from a different culture.

Only in CK3 levies almost do not matter. Fights are won and lost by MAA. So no, they don't give you any troops that matter in any way.

Vassals provide taxes in gold, and gold pays for MAA, and mercs which have MAA in them. So yes, they do provide you the means by which to acquire troops that "matter."

And btw, you way underestimate the importance of levies. It's a gross exaggeration to say that "levies almost do not matter." Early on, MAA can only reasonably be expected to fight levies at 2:1 or 3:1 at best. Even if we're later on with upgrades and stuff, don't forget that there's a limit to the amount of MAA you can have, but no real limit to levies. There's no reason to poo-poo on levies.
