Army quality is just a weighted average that (badly) reflects the troop composition. It does not give buffs to the army or anything like that. A high quality army just means there's a high percentage of maa and knights.
It's misleading because it doesn't take into account advantage that comes from commanders. Quality is also super misleading because it doesn't take into account prowess. You can have an "elite" army of 1 knight with 1 prowess, and another army of 1 knight with 2 prowess. They are both considered elite although there's a world of difference in their fighting power.
tldr: don't chase after army quality itself means next to nothing, it doesn't buff or debuff your army.
