How can I pick who is in a travel entourage
What makes a courtier be in the entourage for a travel event? Why when planning a grand tour does the game invite random guests, my infant son and my sister in-law but not my wife? Is there any mod for modifying my entourage myself rather than accepting whatever idiots the game engine comes up with as to who it thinks is relevant to the activity? Seriously, why would I bring a random guest but not my wife on a grand tour?

There are some court positions (physician, caravan master, at least 1 bodyguard) who always seem to come along.

But then yes, there are some random courtiers who are invited (even after deselecting every category from the invite list).

I only recently realized that it is better to manually invite the majority of the guests rather than rely on the pre-formed categories.

But there are still some random courtiers invited who I don't understand why they are invited and am unable to uninvite them.

as far as I'm aware I can't invite people specifically on my grand tour, that is it is entirely impossible to change the entourage on my own, so that goes out the window. I just want to invite my wife, not all three sisters in law and some random guests I don't care about.

IIRC you click the tab under the text.

as mentioned certain members always come, like bodyguard or doc.

But that only shows who is coming, it doesn't give me the option do dump someone from the entourage and replace them with someone else, not that I've found at least.

No one has any clue? It's not culture because the game is picking children of a different culture than mine rather than say my own children of my own culture, or adult courtiers of the same culture. It's not rank, because it's a grab bag of lowborn and nobles. It's not skills and interests because the game is trying to send two-year olds with no skills or traits that also aren't related to me (while their parents stay home). It's not proximity to the ruler because the game is prioritizing random guests and low level courtiers over family. I just don't see what the reason is for not being able to decide for yourself who goes with you on trips, especially since who does join you on some activities (grand tours being most obvious) seems entirely random. Just let me decide who goes on the trip Paradox (or anyone direct me to towards a mod that fixes this). Right now it feels like a mobile game where the aim is to make me spend money in order to get enough in-game currency to pick larger entourages, and that's obviously a failure of design for a game without those kinds of micro-transactions.

You can't.

If the game is sending children it is because you are not yet 16 years of age and are a "child" yourself. You are throwing a children's party. ONLY children go to children's parties. Personally, I never throw these or attend - since they seem to have mandatory drowning, wounding, and creating rivals as their main events.

I have never had children that were not my own wards (or happen to be born while their mother was travelling or at an event) accompany my as an adult.

No, my adult character is bringing his infant son along, and there's apparently nothing I can do about it.

If he dies maybe you can resurrect him...too.

Year old things are old.

They regularly update/tweak/rebalance the game, including adding DLC (which also includes changes and adds to the base game), so take that into account. Travelling got worked over to add adventurers over the summer. IF the answer was a particular mod to use that mod may no longer work - or even still be in the workshop.
