Warscore was climbing over 50%, sent my troops back home because of rising faction power, then suddenly the crusade is over.
Only reason i could think of is that the pope was captured in a siege or battle, though this should not give -150% warscore?
They were still held by the same ruler, the Kingdom of Syria hadn't changed owner for the past 20 years. And it still is a vassal of the Persian Empire.
Now i also got a CTD in the same session (the second CTD in 350 hours), so probably there's something fundamentally wrong in this savegame.
Ahah sick! T'as la Bretagne si j'ai bien compris alors pourquoi as tu besoin de dézinguer tous ces papes? Et c'est quoi cette armée de mutant??!!! Et dire que je me sentais invincible avec mes 25k ...
Wars can end suddenly if casus belli is no longer valid. For example. This is often the case when you press a claim of one of your courtiers and they die before you win the war.
Crusades are set up to be unstoppable. War is declared on all rulers of hostile faiths in the target kingdom's de jure area, and it doesn't matter wether the attacker or defenders die or lose titles.
White peace is explicitly not possible either.

So if the crusade ends, with no changes to the defending realms (e.g. Byzantium conquering the target realm before the Crusade ends), there must be a bug somewhere.
Only thing i've seen in CK2 was that the pope was captured in Rome, but so far i can't confirm the same for the failed crusades in CK3. In that case you should see the warscore go to -100% and also get a notification toast about the pope having been imprisoned.
However, the war simply ends out of the blue, with the message giving no hints about why. And my detective work in the title history also gave no clues so far.
